A fire broke out at the construction site of the Smart Park project in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, damaging the project’s large promotional sign. Strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly, but firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before any risk of spreading to nearby buildings.

The Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate Emergency Centre (EMCC) reported the incident, which occurred on December 7. The fire consumed the large sign completely, located in front of the Smart Park office building, which is still under construction.

Firefighters from the Map Ta Phut Municipality responded promptly and took 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, the flames did not spread to the nearby building, and no injuries were reported.

Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit, as the sign used a lighting system that could have malfunctioned. Another possibility under review is that sparks from welding during construction might have ignited flammable materials around the sign.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
