Thailand Launches Tourist Police App to Aid Visitors

This initiative aligns with government policies to enhance safety, satisfaction, and revenue within the tourism industry, providing both domestic and international tourists with a secure and enjoyable experience in Thailand during the busy season, reported Daily News.

Can we post pictures and videos of criminal Thai driving behavior that threatens us while touring the country? Or are emergencies only after they actually hit us in a Zebra crossing, or when Somchai drives his taxi/bus/tuk-tuk/etc. off the road while consuming meth, and kills or injures half his fare paying customers? If they really want to "enhance safety", then go after the biggest safety issues encountered by tourists, the Thai driving public.

Tourist police are only a little better than the local police. the difference is their hands are tied when dealing with a crime unless they get the local police involved also. I know for sure I would not download any app for any agency or force in Thailand. The apps as well as call centers seem to be more cause for problems than they are at helping people. I seriously think this app is a waste of time. I can foresee it on posters as you enter Thailand to download it and think most would not.

I've had a Tourist Police App on my phone for well over a year. It does all the functions they describe above. It's called the "Tourist Police i lert u".

There is also a separate but functionally identical general police app. I've had that one for around 5 years.

If you have a problem. You take a photo, upload it to the App. They read the message, see the photo, know your location, and respond. Handy for accidents and disturbance.

The problem for many AseanForum members is many of them are the problem, and are the disturbance. So they should refrain from using this App.

This may have been Smart Police 1.0

Now I think we are upto Smart Police 2.0

Same same but different.

When I do a search in the Google Play Store for the app title used in the OP report above  -- "Thailand Tourist Police Application" -- the app title you posted here is the only pertinent app that seems to surface.

The Google store reviews for the app, which shows 10,000+ downloads, are decidedly mixed.  Sixty one listed ratings and a 2.6 overall score on a scale of 5, with the largest number being the lowest "1" rating.

The app info says it was originally released in March 2018, and the most recent version 1.3.0 was updated in June 2024.... (which of course helps explain why we have the police doing some kind of big announcement about it now... NOT!)

One reviewer from 2023 wrote: "Useless. I contact them, they told me to call. Then I call they tell me to go to office..."

App listed as having been created/authored by some entity named Arunsawad Dot Com Co. Ltd.  The same entity has another similar app apparently for Thai police in general called "Police i lert u" that's listed as having 500,000+ downloads, but oddly NO ratings or reviews whatsoever.

It got 2,000 reviews and has a score of 4.0 on my Google Play.

Is your Google selected for the Thai region? An outside region can cause them to hide reviews.

I have never before had a Police app on my phone.

I might have used one...in the Bronx.

However, I think there is no point in Thailand.

The probability of getting into trouble in Thailand is quite low, compared to The Bronx.

Why clutter my phone with an app that I will never need?

a. I am a law-abiding person.

b. I never go outside my compound walls, except to buy omelettes and canned tuna at Tops.

c. When not outside my walls, I am happier than being outside them.

d.  I rarely see any tourists that might attack me.

e. If I were obliged by law to install a Police app on my phone, then I would follow the regulation.

f.  But, until that day, even FaceBook's app, I removed from my phone.

g.  Here in SE Asia, I feel safe.  East Asia I feel safe.  It's only in the Bronx I feel the need for a Police app.

Note:  Thailand is just about the safest place in the world...for tourists. You can bank on it.
