Police Bust 14 Scrap Shops in Bangkok for Severe Pollution Issues

Police launched Operation STOP POLLUTION THE SERIES 3, targeting scrap shops on On Nut's waste alley in Bangkok for causing pollution with foul odors. Acting on complaints from locals in Phra Khanong, they addressed improper waste management and air pollution concerns.

 

Led by the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NREC), officers arrested 10 shop owners for running health-hazardous businesses without permission. These actions violate the Public Health Act and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration regulations as the shops accumulated dangerous waste.

 

Residents had complained about the pervasive stench and health risks from unsightly waste that attracted insects. Waste had also contaminated local waterways with bacteria and toxic substances, according to senior NREC officer Arune.

 

 

The operation covered 20 locations, revealing extensive roadside rubbish. Of the 20 businesses inspected, 14 operated without licenses, five had permits, and one was shut during the raid, reported KhaoSod. Improper waste storage led to foul odors and attracted pests.

 

Arrested shop owners confessed to buying, storing, and selling waste without proper management or licenses. They now face legal proceedings by the NREC.
