Thai nationals travelling by air can now enjoy faster check-ins with the introduction of the ThaID app, which allows them to use digital identification cards. This innovation aims to ease travel during the busy new year holiday season. As Jirayu Houngsub from the Prime Minister’s Office highlights, airports like Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi will especially see smoother check-in processes when combined with airline online services.

The app adds convenience by integrating with a new biometric identification system at airports, making boarding pass verification swifter and reducing queuing time. Passengers who check-in online through the Airports of Thailand platform can skip directly to the boarding gates with an electronic boarding pass. This move is part of the government's broader strategy to roll out digital IDs across state services.

Additionally, the ThaID app provides a handy backup for travellers who forget their physical IDs and streamlines other bureaucratic processes. It allows users to update government agencies on changes like residence address without needing to visit government offices, thus simplifying administrative tasks for Thai citizens.

I just went through BKK twice this week, out and in. The process has never been smoother for foreigners.

Even the long lines on arrival went fairly quick.

I expect it will get even better.

And if Thailand can have digital ID's, why can't the US?

From walking through the door at BKK to international check in desk to security to immigration to Singapore Airlines lounge took me less than 20 minutes 2 weeks ago. This was with a foreign passport. How much faster could it be with, so called, digital ID?

OK then Hank, enlighten me. How is a digital copy of an ID card - which all Thais already have - that can be used at airports instead of a physical ID card and makes the whole process a bit faster, enslavement??  I must be missing something really obvious. No doubt you have THE TRUTH. as you are so enlightened and wise.

So explain the enslavement please.

All Thai's have to have ID anyway... and all of those ID are already digital and online...

So...  nothing is new at all, just that these ID's can be used for added convenience.

The level of paranoia amongst a certain section of AN crowd really is truly laughable, but to counter that takes to another level which becomes all sad from a 'tin-foil-hat-nutter-doomsday-prepper-get-off-the-grid' perspective.

First of all, I don't owe you an explanation, nor do you deserve one. However, for other, more deserving readers, I will explain it:

Digital IDs are a necessary step on the way to a total surveillance state, such as the one that exists in China already. They start with making things convenient by allowing you to save 10 minutes at the airport. Then gradually, it becomes impossible to do ANYTHING without the digital IDs. And once everyone is on digital IDs, they can very easily be programmed to prevent you from traveling at all - if you haven't complied with all of their demands (including limiting your "carbon footprint"), or if you have opinions that the government doesn't approve of. Are you aware of the "social credit system" in China? Did you know that there are people who are unable to board planes or trains or even leave their neighborhoods - because they did something that the government doesn't approve of? Is that a world you want to live in?

It's the same with the central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). At first we are given the option of paying for things digitally with our own money from our own bank accounts with our phones. There's the convenience part. Then one we get used to paying for things with our phones, the CBDCs are introduced - and they become the ONLY way to pay for things. At that point, again, if you oppose anything that the government does (such as forced vaccinations), they can simply switch off your CBDC account, and then you have NO way to buy ANYTHING. Do you find that acceptable? I don't.

It's people like you who go through life blissfully unaware of what is happening around you that allows this dystopian future to slowly but surely unfold. And what's worse, you even look down on the people who try to warn you of what's coming.

OMG - people like this really are out there...   I'm surprised you are even online, what with the digital footprint you could be leaving....   I hope you are routing your internet through various VPN's, only turn on your PC from within a faraday cage....:whistling:

Don't look up Brill - the satellites can see you...

With in-built smart chips IDs have been "digital" already for many years now.

That doesn't stop the nutters crawling out of the woodwork claiming dystopian doomsday is approaching and we are all supporting it....

They are sheep to conspiracy theory loons and will believe anything they're told by them - far more sheep-like.
