Tax on the poor?: What's the cause of USA inflation?
Are you misreading the link, Sheryl? It says the ANNUAL inflation rate for 2024 is about 1%, not per month. It's a bit confusing because the bar chart seems to be saying the opposite to what is in the text. The price of a cooked pad siew gai is 50 baht, like it has been for four years. My massage lady still charges 150 baht/hour. Granted migrant workers and Thais on the edge of poverty may notice the difference. An increase of 5 baht for 30 eggs costing 140 baht I don't even notice, so we should count ourselves lucky we are in the Land of Smiles. Happy New Year, and may you have many more of them. -

Day-to-day life in Myanmar
Haha. Nice photo. Still, you just have to be white, in order to be noticed by the locals. Nothing to do with wearing socks with sandals and big flashy cameras, like the old American tourist stereotype. Not saying your encounters would be negative; but more out of curiosity, since foreigners are now so rare in Myanmar, even in places like Mandalay. Even at a mall in Bangkok, I once had a strange Thai teenage girl approach me and say she was so excited to meet a foreigner. A total wacko, or some bizarre English project from school? I don't know and it wasn't the first time either, but at least the third time...(granted, only the 3rd time in nearly 20 years but just saying). Hence why in a country like Myanmar, I'd expect such encounters to be even more common. -

Bypassing passport control
Yes, saw this at Heathrow lately when a red light started flashing when a man tried to go through. An official was near and told him to stand back and wait, interested, I waited a minute and other officers turned up to check him. it’s a very good system. Shame that the trouble makers are not flagged this way. -

TM30 Online - receipt?
Found it confusing, tried for months on and off uploaded all the jpegs and address etc, never got any confirmation so gave up. They still accept the 2018 one printed out. -

Random Prostate biopsy
If for biopsy, it will have included MRI/US fusion guide. Would not have included a stand alone MP MRI. (Or it could have included MP MRI but not biopsy. Will not have been both). Due to the anatomy, and the need for advanced imaging to guide sample selection, a prostate biopsy is not such a simple matter and certainly not comparable to many other types of biopsy. General anesthesia, at least 1 night stay in hospital (often longer if urinary retention an issue) and use of advanced MRI equipment all involved. Prostate biopsies are also not without risks: bleeding, infection, urinary retention on top of usual risks of anesthesia. Which is why it is often preferrable to first do a MP MRI - it reduces the number of unnecessary biopsies (i.e. biopsies that prove negative) considerably. But at a cost as it requires a special, new type of MRI machine and specially trained technicians etc. -
