The Pelicot Rape

Yes you bring up an interesting point - the actual 'mechanics' of how it was done to her, how she was drugged. So, he arranged to have men come over to 'rape' her. If she was not 'in on it' she had to be unconscious by the time they arrived (or awkward questions would be asked). So he had to time the administration of the drug (what drug was it anyway?). Keeping her unconscious would also have been tricky. She mustn't wake up during the proceedings. But equally she hadn't to be poisoned by an overdose. That's quite a feat to acheive I imagine.

There are just so many unanswered questions about this whole thing that I find it hard to believe.

As to it being 'a leftist witch hunt' - do you mean all the media attention and praise for her is to be taken at face value too and simply accepted? We live in times of total fakery by the media, and nothing they print seems to be without agenda. I for one am not so gullible as to believe all I read or hear. Everything has spin. Everything.

Yes, lots of things that have not been explained very well. I can accept it happened to someone without consent once or twice, but multiple times over years?

I live in Thailand, needed to google what this what about as it isn't news in all countries.

Your stupid insult says a lot about you though.

No, it merely confirms that you have zero sense of humour. No one “insulted” you, all that happened is that someone pulled your leg about not knowing anything about the Pelicot case.

But of course we now live in a world we’re everyone is “offended”, and they are offended and traumatised … even when in reality they are not. Welcome to 2025.

That recent really? Wow, I never heard of it.

I worked in Nigeria for a while in the early 80's and they televised regular firing squad executions from the beach in Lagos. I think there are still videos online.

I have just checked and Thailand replaced firing squads with lethal injections in 2003.

What I saw was probably an execution from another country (such as Indonesia) and as I was very new to Thailand at the time (literally my first month), I thought it was here.

Glad I've resolved this cold case for myself

I've been brushing up on my Bible reading.  Apparently he didn't do anything wrong.  Consent doesn't exist in the Bible.  The section on Lot's Daughters, Genesis 19 was not easy to read.

I wonder if that is what all those Catholic priests had in mind when getting jiggy jiggy with the kids?

Consent is not a requirement.

Far as I'm concerned marriage was over as a viable exercise when they said a man could rape his wife. How the <deleted> can any man prove that he didn't? Short of making a VDO every time, or having a witness in the room, it's just her word and we know how the courts always believe everything a woman says- just because she a female.

Perhaps there is a niche market in printing consent forms for a wife before her husband can do what he married her for.
