Happy New Year folks,

 

Have you eaten any street food lately?

 

10B ice-cream from the mobile vendor is one of my favorites here.

 

The last ice-cream I ate toward the end of 2024.  Vanila with the topping of peanuts and chocolate syrup.

 

 

What kind of Thai street food do you like?

Im in Cambodia where the street food sin t quite as good as Thailand. But I did hit the pork lady the other day for some grilled pork ribs.

I dont usually take pics of pork ribs in styrofoam, but the next time I get some, Ill post a photo.

 

I went to get a duck the other day, the woman put some leafy veggies in the box and I used Google to ask her, "what vegetable is that?".

 

Her reply was priceless

 

"its the vegetable you eat with duck"

Stopped some years ago, when these greedy vendors patched up excellent food with MSG and sugar; today most of the stuff became inedible, if you ask me 😞

I checked  my archives.

But not many food photos from Cambodia while there are quite a few scenic pix(e.g. public markets).

Beautiful Mu Ping(charcoal grilled pork) and sticky rice on banana leaves.

I often eat them in the open air market while grocery shopping.

Very moment feeling great to be alive.

Sorry, yes you bought it on the street but I would not consider a cheap cup of ice cream Thai Street food.  Thanks for your thread though.

Most ice-cream sellers in the street, serve 10B portion in cone.

But that vendor put it on the plastic bowl(top cover of the disposable cup).

It is not a factory-packed stuff. 

So I call it Street Food.

Another version of 10B Thai street ice-cream: Stick type.

Often seen in Sunday night market between Thae Pae Gate and Wat Phrasing as well.

Street food is good here, but you have to be very very careful. I think the two biggest hazards are spoiled meat or seafood, that's been left out too long, or frozen and then thawed and then frozen again, and left out without proper refrigeration or enough ice, and cooking oil. We don't know how old the cooking oil is here and if it's more than a day or too old it can be extremely toxic to the liver.

 

A friend of mine just ended up with a liver abscess, and spent eight days in the hospital. He doesn't know how he got it but there's a chance that it could have been from some sort of bacteria from food. Meat and seafood are a common culprit.

But I don't eat it street food all the time. And I never eat any seafood in the street.

Instead, I often cook my meals at home(over 90% of the time).

Street gourmet is something like for a change.

BBQ chicken , with sticky rice and a very tasty tamarind sauce. Sorry no photos just brought it home and ate it for lunch. Everywhere round here at the roadside. Bang Saray, Sattahip area.

Mu Pings are mostly sold by small individual vendors(family-run or alone by the seller).

Do you really believe they got enough manpower to make up fake meat that tastes like pork with the fat and gristle/cartilage?

Sounds so unrealistic.

Even though big manufactures can make it with sophisticated food processing technologies and factories.

Can't remember the last time I ate actual 'street' food.  Prepped food from fresh market, but always nuked when getting back home to eat.

 

Only things I'll eat on the fly, are bbq, fresh of the grill, fruit peeled & cut in front of me, or pre package pastry, and nothing that's been setting out exposed to dirt/exhaust/flies.

 

Using that uncommon common sense, never an issue when eating

Yes i think it's radish plus the essential blood for flavour

I drink a hot ginger infusion every day. Buy 5 bags at a time as you can keep in the fridge and re heat. Anti inflammatory so good for arthritis. 

 

Sometimes go for the hot patango while I'm at it but not too often. Delicious but  pretty unhealthy.

 

Also buy a khao klukapi sometimes if we can't be bothered to cook. Very nice.

Not as much as I used to. Echoing Mike on meat quality... although never had food poisoning from it, main bugbear is overused palm oil and MSG. If you request to leave the latter out (if at all possible), it all of a sudden tastes very ordinary. On occasion though, no worries as with anything. Having said that, the guys pouring score over Thai street food will think nothing of getting hammered on crap beer every night of the week of course lol. 

 

Not impressed with Cambodia street food compared with Thai. Found them overly aggressive and ready to hoik up the price, though not huge experience.

 

Good a topic as any btw. Shame you got so many dislikes for your trouble... perhaps posted to the wrong forum, or more likely people in this space now prefer to just talk about women and football. 🙂

My GF sometimes buys me a pad siew gai for lunch.

 

She is picky about who she buys it from, occasionally comes back empty-handed.
