Gobbler Posted January 6 Posted January 6 It doesn't matter what the number represents. I call any call center, and if I have to give them a credit card or bank account number, the bloody annoying people, almost all of them get three digits, and then they read back the three digits and do it for the entire set of numbers. It bloody annoys me, plus they never get it right the first time, and then I have to repeat the process until I have had enough and demand they do not repeat the number until I give it to them entirely. What is this? I have never encountered this in the USA. Is there an explanation for this in Asia, as it is almost entirely universal here? 1 1 2

worgeordie Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Can you repeat that I cannot understand your accent , thank you , that's why ... been a Geordie I get that ,but understand ,it's my fault ,and don't complain about it... regards Worgeordie 1 1
Popular Post CharlieH Posted January 6 Popular Post Posted January 6 It may possibly be that they dont hear or understand you correctly; they are Asian listening to a second language; you may have an accent and may speak too quickly for them; comprehension is not optimum over a phone. There are any number of reasons that can impact that call. The fact they are being thorough and being sure the information is correct should be appreciated, not scorned. 5

They aren't being thorough because they never get it correctly. I am very clear about my speech. Besides, I never said I didn't say it to them in Thai. English or Thai is the same result. They get confused with these ridiculous sets of 3. 1 1

C'mon, Charlie, I speak several languages and have only experienced this here. They stop me at three numbers with their repeating. I have to ask them to listen to the entire number set and then repeat it to me. It saves so much time, and their way takes more time. 1
Gobbler Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 So, it is noted that I speak one number at a time, and I do it slowly.

Many Thais compliment my English, saying I am very easy to understand. You're wrong. I keep my thoughts separate from each other, and my pronunciation is near perfect. 2

Of course it HAS to be them doesnt it, couldnt possibly be you ! and the fact that you are not even prepared to accept it may be, speaks volumes in itself. 1 1 4

Are you automatically apologizing for the Asians? It's not just me, I have seen it with others as well. Are you showing me YOUR bias? 2 1

So, in my view its not and never has been an issue, so using YOUR logic demonstarted here, it MUST be you, cant be them. 4

Are you automatically apologizing for the Asians? He was speaking up for them, not apologising for them for which there is no need. Seems that you're just lamely Thai-bashing. It's odd how so many AN posters characterise any support of Thais or Thailand as being a "Thai apologist". What's that all about? 1 1

ricklev Posted January 7 Posted January 7 My very long last name, unfortunately for Thai native speakers, has a V in it. I groan inwardly every time I am asked on the phone how to spell my last name because I know that when we get to the V it will be mistaken for a B or a Z and no amount of explaining it is a V not a Z or a B will suffice. Not the use of Zed, not saying ABCDEFGHIJKLMOPQRSTU V!!!!! It is hopeless. I have added this interaction to the dang blanged list (a similar list to the one you keep your credit card issue in)!
