This isn't news and that's the problem - it's precisely what is posted. It absolutely should be only Thai news and far more serious. Must be a dozen serious Thai news sources.

It's hilarious - Trump wins by 3M votes, electoral landslide, sweep ALL battleground states and yet he is still insulted, mocked and maligned on this forum hourly. I don't support shutting down any speech, but this forum is laughable in it's machinations. There is this ridiculous negative Trump narrative fostered by the butthurt which is patently false. Until this board reflects not only us attitudes, but world attitudes it will sink further into the abyss. People are exhausted of the covid, Soros, DEI, lawfare, dishonest, corrupt, free shlt army agenda. It's done. They lost.

You might not know a single int'l Trump supporter, but half the expats I know and meet are pro Trump.

EU is lurching right. Canada just dumped Trudeau. Argentina, Mexico.

The board is dominated by very woke FSA liberals. They neither reflect sentiments of US and many other countries vis a vis choice of PM, parliament

It's simple.. if the tribe continues to get posted people will continue to leave.

I understand the board's need for members and clicks, but the members living outside of Thailand really add nothing to The forum.

I have absolutely no doubt that during the dark days of covid and during the DEI debacle there were numerous members and posters that had little or nothing to do with Thailand.

Within reason, everything on a Thai forum should be about Thailand. Simples

The next 4 years are going to be an extremely exciting time to be alive and plugged into this world. Embrace the future if you're up for it. If not - move to Issarn and enjoy a bucolic life

Thailand is a very small proportion of the planet, a population of 72 million. News here is fairly banal, except when it affects expats and retirees.

There are plenty of posters on ASEAN who support Trump. I can't say the same of Americans I have met in person, they are sheepish and apologetic.

I am living in Thailand; however, I don't understand why posters outside it should be excluded. That's like saying only Americans can comment on events in the USA.

You're right, it's going to be an exciting time full of surprises. I'm predicting some of them won't be pleasant.

Gentlemen, it won't be long and expats will cherish the boring political environement that we call Thailand.

Because, with the new "helmsman" in the US, all hell will break loose in the West. Enjoy the political calm in Thailand, as the "helmsman" in the US has no plans concerning Thailand.

Of course this will change immediately if one of the helmsman's advisors tell him that Thailand is located very near Greenland.

Try getting off world news, and looking at the different subforums- perhaps one with Thai in the title.

:whistling:

I will try to post more Topics about Thailand, exclusively about Thailand.

This might help.

Yes, by all means. Copy and paste You Tube Thai contributions with AI translations.

You stepping outside your house, mixing and mingling with Thais, possibly in the deepest of the Isan?

Come on, it's not you. Too late to re-invent yourself.

Seems that someone missed that AN is not an exclusively Thai forum, and if it were it would likely have ended for lack of advertising. Soooo, unless you are willing to pay to use it, you need to accept us not Thai residents.

You do have the option of not going on any non Thai subforum, eg WORLD NEWS.

Apparently you think Trump has waaaaaay more influence than any US president has ever had in the entire history of the USA. I disagree. Life for most will carry on as usual, and most will not  give Trump a moment's thought.

Funny guy. The board used to be called Thai visa. It was at the time about Thailand. The added subforums have done little or nothing to add to the forum in general.

Disinformation, misinformation is absolutely everywhere and in almost every subforum. It's largely posted by people outside Thailand.

Thai expats:

* Add unique perspective from standard bog discussions.

* Add insight to living in Thailand and E Asia

As more trolls come aboard, more disinformation gets the pass through the board will lose all relevancy.

I understand the needs of the eyes and clicks to pay bills. I pay or used to pay at least with quality information gained from 33 years in E Asia. If Aseannow went to subscription it would die in a week and those not in Thailand would be first to bolt.

From my perspective your snowbird opinion is totally unwanted as it lacks the perspective of a (Thai) expat - nothing personal.

The poster you are responding to did live in Thailand for an indeterminate period, then apparently lost all his money to a Thai woman.

No doubt that tends to color his opinions on Thailand, and the rest of the world.

At one time, back in the Thaivisa days it was only Thai news, but overwhelming demand from members changed that. We couldn't take down what was "off topic" world news content as fast as people were posting it, so we gave in to what was a clear demand. It's sectioned off from the Thai news though, so nobody's forced to read through it if they aren't interested.

Perhaps that demand was from those not in Thailand? The posts were relevant to them not being in Thailand. I'm not averse to international news but international news VIA website or RSS is available everywhere.

Appreciate your comments

Actually, according to our data at the time it was mostly coming from Thai and other regional (Singapore, Cambodia, Burma, etc) IP addresses. There already existed many places to discuss world news, but not among other expats in the region. Many news stories had a different perspective for expats than it did for people back home. Pensions for instance. A minor change in the UK for instance might have an outsized effect to expats in Thailand because of exchange rates. Many people who lived in Thailand had homes and investments back home, as well as family who were affected by events there.

There's also a considerable number of people who live in Thailand, but work on contracts abroad, particularly in the petroleum industry.

He is also a male nurse.

Which is different as most of the members here are males. So he gives us a different perspective on things.

There are always the same number of trolls, they just post under new names as their old names get banned. But at least now, forum policy has changed (for the better IMHO) to let everyone have a say as long as they are polite and civil about it.

I think there is a bit of a difference between international news, whether it's politics,or general world news, than individual forum memebers posting political views/opinions/rant etc. Imo opinion such posts should be on the political section where forum members can visit if they are intersted. I generally read political news elsewhere such that I can find Left and Right reporting on a particular topic.

However, I wou;d stop short of suggexting a ban on individual political rants because once on that road other topics might suffer similarly. One point that I think is important is that when reading the list of AN topics to choose from it might help if individual political rants might flagged so that they could be avoided when one isn't interested.

If ASEAN stuck to Thai news only, I doubt there would be many people reading it.

Monk embezzles 3 million baht, and elopes with a 14 yo from Korat. What's new?

Agreed. I don't even glance at postings about Thai people killing and being killed by each other. They don't care and I stopped caring years ago.

likewise, foreigners killing or being killed. Same old same old.

How can it be 'news' when it happens 50 times a day?
