Police in Bangkok apprehended a 41 year old man suspected of leading a gang involved in the abduction and robbery of a mother and her daughter. The gang leader allegedly forced the victims to withdraw cash from an ATM before releasing them under the Bhumibol Bridge.

The arrest took place yesterday, January 9, near a medical clinic in Khlong Toei, Bangkok. Gang leader Pichet was arrested under a warrant issued by the Thon Buri Criminal Court on October 10 last year, facing charges of armed robbery causing bodily harm, and unlawful detention.

The arrest operation was led by several officers, including Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom and Police Major General Wasan Techa-akkarasem.

The incident occurred on November 1, 2022, at approximately 4pm. The gang leader, Pichet, along with four accomplices, allegedly threatened the two female victims with a knife, coercing them into withdrawing 13,000 baht from an ATM.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Pichet confessed to being persuaded by three friends to participate in the abduction, which took place at a shopping mall in the Rama 2 area. After obtaining the cash, the victims were driven away and released under the Bhumibol Bridge. Pichet was subsequently handed over to Thakham Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Police Major General Theeradej urged the public, especially women and teenagers, to remain vigilant to avoid similar incidents. He advised against constant phone usage, which could increase vulnerability to such crimes. Additionally, he recommended avoiding secluded or poorly lit areas, as these may become hotspots for criminal activities, reported KhaoSod.

The police officer also suggested avoiding pedestrian overpasses at night, especially those without lighting, and being cautious when using public restrooms alone. In emergencies, he emphasised the importance of quickly contacting the police by dialling 191.

Gang members or terrorists should be shown no quarter, they should be exterminated on sight. Time that governments get tough on these groups, make it well known that they will be executed as enemies of the state.
