Several elderly passengers sustained injuries after a car crashed into the back of a pickup truck carrying a group of religious followers returning from a ceremony honouring revered monk Kruba Boonchum. The crash occurred at the San Khong intersection in Mae Chan District, Chiang Rai, with CCTV capturing the moment of the collision.

Police from Mae Chan Police Station responded to the incident, which involved three vehicles. A white Chevrolet Colorado pickup, carrying five elderly passengers in its truck bed, was struck from behind by a white Honda car. The impact caused the passengers to be thrown onto the road, with some landing under the vehicles. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

The followers were returning from a religious ceremony at Wat Wiang Kaew in Chiang Saen District, marking the final day of the event. As the pickup truck slowed to turn right into a village road in Moo 10, Pa Tueng Subdistrict, it was hit by the Honda, which pushed the vehicle into another pickup in front.

Rescue teams from Thap Yang were dispatched to the scene and promptly transported the injured to Mae Chan Hospital.

Police revealed that the driver of the Honda, an elderly man, admitted that he was attempting to swerve to avoid a passing dirt truck when sunlight blinded him, preventing him from noticing the stationary vehicles ahead. As a result, he collided with the Chevrolet, causing damage to all three vehicles.

The insurance provider for the Honda has agreed to cover the damages and medical expenses for all those affected. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken.

They will never learn that it is not safe to ride in the back of a pickup, especially with the amount of idiots on the roads here.

Honda CRV clearly at fault, driving without due care and attention.

It actually seems like the CRV driver has intent to kill.
