A suspected thief died after falling from an abandoned building near a well-known temple in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province.

 

On night of 10 January, Pol. Lt. Nimman Nikuno, an investigating officer at Hat Yai Police Station, received a report of a deceased individual found beside a derelict building on Soi 2, Phetkasem Road, near Wat Hong Pradittharam. Authorities, including a forensics team, patrol officers, a medical examiner from Hat Yai Hospital, and rescue workers from the Mitraphap Samakkee Foundation, were dispatched to the scene.

 

Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a man, aged approximately 30–40 years, lying beside the abandoned building. His leg was draped over a barbed-wire fence, which had collapsed under his weight. Authorities believe he fell from the building, landing on the fence. The body showed signs of rigor mortis, suggesting he had been dead since the previous night.

 

The man had no identification documents on him, but a bag found nearby contained items such as water taps, a screwdriver, pliers, and a flashlight.

 

According to police, the deceased is suspected to have been stealing from the building. The night before, the building’s caretaker reported hearing dragging noises inside and alerted the authorities. Upon investigation, police found a sack of items, including scrap metal, that had been moved from the fifth floor to the second floor, but no suspect was located at the time.

 

It is believed the man may have fallen while attempting to climb down the side of the building to escape. His body has been sent to Hat Yai Hospital for further examination. Authorities are working to identify the deceased and notify his family.
