"But officer, I'm not driving, I'm traveling! And this is not a motor vehicle, it's my conveyance, my personal property not in commerce, traveling from A to B. And you don't have personal jurisdiction over this flesh and blood, standing on the earf', lower case name not affiliated with the all-caps entity shown on that arrest warrant. I want a supervisor. NOW. So is this an Article 3 detention? Are you coercing me under common law or maritime law? Hey! You can't taze me!" 1 3

anchadian Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Yes, I'm in the same position as yourself. It was my intention to apply for a TIN and file a return but about a couple of weeks ago I visited my local tax office with all relevant docs and the lady official informed me that there is no need to file as your remittances are well before the D/A although, she didn't ask if I was employed here. 1 1

Yea well this guy is the only one that calls a spade a spade....And he is quite happy to call out all the phony money grubbing tax advisor frauds in lots of videos in this thread.. 1

We've been flooded with videos from multiple sources. One prolific poster is from a law firm that clickbaits customers by running a website with an address impersonating the Thai embassy. Another is a conspiracy guy who renounced US citizenship but is claiming to be an "American lawyer." Who am I to trust? 1 1 1
KhunHeineken Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago 19 hours ago, NoDisplayName said: Nice choice! Read his video summary: Are you a foreigner living in Thailand for more than 180 days a year? Then listen up - Thailand considers you a tax resident, and that means you're required to report your worldwide income if it's brought into the country during the same tax year. He claims: If you are tax resident, regardless of income, you must obtain a TIN. If you remit ANY 2024 income, exempt or not, regardless of amount, you must file a return and declare it. Scaremongers gonna mong! Maybe find a credible source if ya wanna post some fearporn. Oh, and at 9:30, news guy says if you have questions, put 'em down below in the comments. But.........."Comments are turned off." Seems they aren't so very sure of themselves, after all. Just another video that's out there. I don't know the guy. I have never engaged the services of his business. There's a thread running where the boss of the TRD tells tax residents to file, and you still put your own "spin" on it. Good Luck try trying to buck the Thai system. We've seen others try it, and it did not end well for them. 1 1

Professionals in the legal and financial and visa industries here all see the writing on the wall, as do many expats. You are in the minority, still hoping all this goes away. It's not going to go away. 1

If you are under the tax free threshold, then fine. I don't know many expats that could live here comfortably on that amount, but good luck to you.

For the record, some members put forward videos from this guy to counter my "scaremongering." Now, here he is say there is a real possibility a tax clearance certificate will be needed at extension time. It's soooooooo funny. 1 1
stoutfella Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Finally, I thought I would write a "thank you" note to all who have posted valuable information on here. You have saved me much money as I now don't have to tour the bars of Pattaya seeking out this information and my wife is much relieved that I am not to be let loose in Pattaya unaccompanied. I really can't understand what all the premature panic is about. As far as I am aware the government has as yet made no definitive statement regarding this issue so until they do I am not going to risk elevating my blood pressure with the possible associated heart attack. There are many, many more things in Thailand which can cause that already so why add unnecessarily add to them? 1 1

Tax season is half over, no new forms have appeared, no new documentation requirements have been been added. We're still self-determining accessibility, we're still self-determining need to file. No taxpayer has been audited, no taxpayer has been required to submit proof of source of funds. A few have voluntarily handed over a binder of financial statements, and the TRD officer either hasn't cared, or had to fudge some way to use them. Extensions are being granted by immigration as before, travelers are crossing the borders as before. Nothing has changed, and nothing will change.....this year, fer shirley! 1 3

KhunHeineken Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago 11 hours ago, anchadian said: Grow up Khun Heineken, even my teenage daughter could complete a Thai tax return without having to go through an agent as you yourself stated earlier. You must have more money than sense. As I have posted before, where possible, I do not want to deal with any Thai officials, and I am happy to pay for it. I am not one of the "I get the misses to do it" group. I'm single, but even with a Thai partner I would maintain my independence. As I said, the 800k baht back in my home country, earning more than 5%, more than covers the cost of an agent, and then some. Tax agents can actually "negotiate" one's tax bill. Myself, and the agent I have tentatively chosen, have discussed my circumstances and we have both agreed on an amount of tax I "should" pay. If the agent can negotiate that down a little, well, that may cover his fees. If he negotiates it down a lot, he'll get a bonus. So, I'm on the golf course, and not waiting in a TRD queue, or being told I'm one photocopy short etc, for the same price as doing it myself, or possibly less. I'll see how he goes. TiT. I have posted before I'm giving Thailand a chance at this. I am prepared to pay 2024 tax, but did minimize my remittances. 1

I actually posted that he may be sailing close to defamation in one of his videos where he basically said Thailand can't even enforce labor laws, so how can they enforce this tax law. He was very critical of Thailand in that video. Watch 13:10 to 13:45. He even says he believes a certificate will be needed for immigration. 1 1

However, in my opinion, I am sure the Thai's have something up their sleeve for such a scenario. I have put forward one such scenario. 33 minutes ago, NoDisplayName said: No taxpayer has been audited, no taxpayer has been required to submit proof of source of funds.
