Simple and Cheap Barber Recommendation?

Any suggestions for a barber shop that is simple and cheap. I mean an old fashioned shop with a few chairs priced under 200 baht, usually around 100-120 baht these days.

 

I used to go the one on Thonglor just down from the BTS as they had a lot of experience cutting Japanese and farang hair, but the guy I liked there retired.

It's not so much about the price as it is the simplicity and speed.

 

My cut is a pretty simple number 5 on the clippers with no fade and finish with scissors. It's the no fade on the side that most Thai barbers just can't wrap their head around.

 

I have no interest in salons or hipster shops. Just your basic barber!

How far are you prepared to walk?

There's one on the corner of Ekamai Soi 10 and a few in Sukhumvit 71.

Actually the one in Ekamai is 650 baht.

The ones in Sukhumvit 71 where mostly Thai people visit are 120 baht.

Just around the corner rural cm 50฿, in the city 100฿. Rural Lampang 50฿.

Hate going to the barbers, queuing, paying, time consuming.

 

Bought a Babyliss cutter and cut my own now ..........it is amazing....the wife used to cut mine, but she took at least a hour.....

I'd never heard of a 'no fade' haircut, so it doesn't surprise me if Thai's don't know what you mean. Do you try to explain it another way, or maybe show them a picture?

The one you mentioned on Thong Lo still has three experienced and mature guys doing barber work, and all are great, I have been going to that barbers for years, i love it.

I guess that would be a cheap option for you.

I'm thinking a cut using the ubiquitous machete might not come out right.

I go to one on Soi 55 Soi Thonglor which I think is the one you mean. I have a straight number 2 no fuss and no problem. Don't think it could be done any quicker.

Do you just take the next one available or do you have a favorite?  I remember the first time I went there, maybe 15 years ago, the barber closest to the window, reached under his chair and pulled out some Japanese nudey magazines for me to enjoy while getting my hair cut.

I give my local guy in Pua 100 for a haircut and the same for a shave. He doesn't have a price list nor speak English but I'm assuming by his smile when he sees me and the baht that I've covered the price and there is a tip.

There's one off Petchaburi, just after Wittayu Road and right before the gas station on the right hand side heading towards Ratchaprasong. 60 baht for a haircut, 60 for a shampoo. Gets pretty crowded on Sundays

I visit Chiang Mai for three months every summer and the 100 baht haircut I get from my favorite barber is absolutely perfect.  It's a Thai style hovel that would not suffer from a good cleaning but the guy is an artist that takes pride in his work if not the cleanliness of his shop.  There is always a line of Thai guys in front of me making for a long wait.  I can't find the place on Google Maps though.

Me I go to a shop in nana just up the street from the entertainment area

There's many barber shops along Sukhumvit that will cut your hair.   Just go outside and have a look,  otherwise go to the motorbike taxi and he will cut it for 100 baht. 

 

Do you need a supermarket for your groceries   ?

They'll come rushing towards you when you walk in the door. There are a lot of them and my haircut is basic so I just take whoever comes first.

Prices around central touristy areas are around 400 - 600 Baht, which is a disgrace. A little bit of a shop done up, and they get away with it. 

 

To put that into perspective, that's more than a cut price in some UK cities.
