Three Family Members Killed in Pickup Truck Collision in Nonthaburi

Three members of a family lost their lives, and two young children were injured after their pickup truck crashed into the rear of a parked lorry in Bang Bua Thong district early morning.

 

At 07:45 on 2 February, police from Bang Bua Thong Police Station, along with rescue teams from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and the Bua Phet Rescue Association, responded to reports of a fatal collision on Highway 345 near the Kanchanaphisek Road interchange. Upon arrival, officers discovered a heavily damaged Mitsubishi pickup truck, registration from Nonthaburi, carrying a large load of fresh vegetables.

 

Inside the wreckage, three family members were found deceased: the male driver, his younger sister who was trapped in the passenger seat, and a female relative who was thrown from the vehicle. Two injured children, a one-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, were rescued and rushed to Pak Kret 2 Hospital for medical treatment.

 

The collision involved a 22-wheel lorry, registration from Nonthaburi. The lorry had been parked on the roadside since 05:00, as the driver, Sitthisak, 49, was waiting to deliver cement pipes to a nearby construction site. He stated that he had been resting in his vehicle when he was jolted awake by a powerful impact from behind. Upon inspecting the scene, he found the pickup truck had ran into the back of his lorry and immediately called emergency services for assistance.

 

Relatives of the deceased revealed that the family operated a rice and curry stall in a factory area in Bang Bua Thong. They had travelled to Talad Thai market early in the morning to purchase fresh vegetables, a routine they followed every Sunday.

 

Police have documented the scene and interviewed the lorry driver. Further investigations, including reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas, are underway. Forensic experts from the Institute of Forensic Science also assessed the incident before the bodies were removed from the vehicle.

Untrained drivers (lacking any knowledge of road laws/rules), a me-first attitude, lack of personal safety, absolutely no care for the safety of others, an air of invincibility, average IQ's of 88, and they believe in superstitious Amulets for protection. It would be like walking into a room of 10 year olds back in our home countries, and handing them all keys to cars/motorcycles and saying "have fun".

I had somebody drive into the back of my car whilst I was waiting at a red light on Christmas Eve. The driver admitted he had been working two days straight and had fallen asleep. He handed over 400 bht to the Police and that was that as far as they were concerned. A while ago my wife was fined 500 bht for not wearing a seatbelt.

Until there are proper consequences for the astonishing accident count on Thai roads nothing will change.

They can't drive, they often speed, drive dangerously without regard for other road users, don't wear seatbelts and often drive under the influence.
