The Biggest Doge Hoaxes About USAID Spread on X by Musk
Not just laws. But the Constitution. The President gets his or her once chance to deal with a law that they don't like but vetoing it. (Technically speaking it's a bill, not a law). But once that's done, the Executive branch is supposed to put into effect laws passed by Congress. If it's a funding bill, that means spending the money as the law prescribes. Now Congress has legistlatively given Presidents a means not to spend that money. It's called rescission. But it requires the approval of Congress. -

Is Elon Draining the Swamp on Government Spending or Is He the Swamp?
Musk is basically trying to slow everyone else down. He’s hugely insecure and he is doing everything he can to try and keep himself and his ailing companies relevant. Trying to control government spending, trying to destroy any competitor. He’s a total sh*t show that is getting in the way of human progression and development. -

Thailand Debates Costly Move to Relocate Capital from Bangkok
I think we can learn from history…New Capitals are often tools of authoritarian regimes to centralise and consolidate their power. New capitals are frequently employed by authoritarian regimes as tools of control. By moving away from politically engaged, historically significant urban centres, these governments aim to weaken opposition, reinforce regime legitimacy, and construct carefully controlled environments that reinforce their ideological goals. Whether through monumental architecture, geographic repositioning, or rigid urban planning, these capitals serve as physical manifestations of authoritarian power, insulating rulers from democratic movements and consolidating their grip over national affairs. -

Surin Tragedy: Man with Prosthetic Leg Fatally Attacked
Picture courtesy of KhaoSod In a heart-wrenching incident yesterday, a 52-year-old man with a disability was killed following an altercation in Surin province, Thailand. The tragic event unfolded in the afternoon when police were called to an assault scene near the village hall in Mueang, Sangkhla district. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered An, a local resident who used a prosthetic leg, lying lifeless beside a wooden platform, surrounded by grief-stricken relatives. Witnesses claimed that An was attacked by 47-year-old Sompong during a social gathering for dismantling tents after a local event. Sompong admitted during police questioning that he argued with An while they were having drinks together. The confrontation escalated when Sompong allegedly kicked An in the neck, causing him to fall and fatally hit his head on a tree stump. Consequently, Sompong has been charged with assault leading to death. Speaking through tears, An's sister expressed her devastation and disbelief at the violent outcome, describing her brother's vulnerability due to his disability. She recounted how An, who lived with another sibling, was disabled from an accident years ago and demanded justice, urging police to take appropriate action. The close-knit community now grapples with the shock and loss of a well-known resident, as proceedings in the case move forward, reported The Thaiger. -- 2025-02-11 -

Notable changes President Trump is making since resuming office this year
I hate paper straws. We used to use paper straws in the 1950s. Never liked them. Paper cups! We need to ban paper cups, too. The worst paper cups are the ones you see by a drinking fountain. The triangular ones. They collapse and then the water soaks shirts and pants (trousers). These triangular paper cups should be banned FIRST.
