Georgealbert Posted Friday at 09:00 PM Posted Friday at 09:00 PM Pictures from responders. A crash occurred in the early hours of the morning on 7 February, when a pickup truck crashed into the rear of a parked 18-wheeler on Bang Kruai–Sai Noi Road, Nonthaburi, resulting in one fatality and two serious injuries. At approximately 04:50 officers from Bang Bua Thong Police Station were alerted to the incident and rushed to the scene, accompanied by emergency rescue teams from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and forensic medical staff from the Institute of Forensic Science. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a Ford pickup truck registered in Nonthaburi, its rear loaded with signage materials and fresh flowers, indicating it was likely used for event decoration services. The vehicle had slammed into the back of a Hino 18-wheeler, with the trailer registered in Bangkok and the truck’s cab registered in Ayutthaya. Inside the wrecked pickup, three men were trapped. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutters to extract two seriously injured passengers, while the third victim, seated in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Sa-wang the 49-year-old driver of the 18-wheeler, told police that he had parked his vehicle at around 02:00 to wait for a morning delivery at a nearby warehouse. He was resting inside the truck when he was startled by a loud crash and a violent impact at the rear. Stepping out to investigate, he found the pickup truck lodged into his trailer and immediately called emergency services. Preliminary investigations suggest that either the pickup truck driver may have been speeding and failed to notice the parked vehicle in time or alternatively, police suspect the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the high-speed collision. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and will conduct further interviews with the truck driver. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy. -- 2025-02-08 2 1
smedly Posted Friday at 10:44 PM Posted Friday at 10:44 PM there are multiple incidents of this bizarre practice on a weekly basis, what is it, my guess is phone use mixed with drugs/ alcohol use, as with all issues on Thai roads this is right up there along with bus accidents and DUI 1 1

I saw someone on a scooter the other day, he wasn't so much riding while quickly checking his phone (dangerous enough) as literally playing with his phone and occasionally looking at the road. Utter madness and totally avoidable. 2

I love it more when they are driving the wrong way down the road, looking at their phone, and without a helmet either. You have to wonder how anyone can combine so many bad decisions at once and think it's even remotely safe.
