Credit card payments on BTS, MRT etc.

Is there any extra charges if one taps his credit card for BTS, MRT and other trains?

Any difference if one uses a  Thai card or other international card? 

Anyone has been using a credit card  for this purpose?

US card works with no additional charge.  I think you can only use a card on MRT.

Can you share your experiences? Was your transaction posted in THB or USD/DCC?

Posted in THB. My card has no foreign transaction fee.

 

Each person needs their own card. Not able to pay for multiple passengers with one card.

An off topic, but related question:  A friend just bought a refillable, reusable card (for the MRT only).  It has a Visa logo on the front, a 16 digit Visa-like number on the back, and a CVV.  But it is not linked to his bank account, so is not a debit card.  And he was asked no questions about his employment or salary, so it is not a credit card either. Does anyone know what exactly this card is ?

This is likely card-dependent, but some people report an additional fee of $0.60 (~20 THB) per day (or per trip), posted as a separate transaction.

It is a prepaid Visa card. You have to download the MRT app and register the Visa card (a bit complicated). Within the app you can top up the card by QR Code.

Thank you.  My friend has now succeeded in making the card refillable.  So, this card can now be used like a regular Visa card to purchase from shops and restaurants ?

If it's a prepaid Visa card then yes.....however the best way to really find out is......try it, presumably he has set up a PIN for it?
