The Customs Department in Ranong has authorised the export of fuel to be used exclusively by a support vessel for PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), in accordance with Thailand’s current border and energy policies. The fuel will be used to support offshore oil drilling platforms in Myanmar, as part of PTTEP’s ongoing natural gas production efforts.

This approval comes after the Thai government implemented strict measures, including suspending electricity supplies and fuel exports to Myanmar, aiming to pressure the Myanmar government to address issues such as call centre operations and human trafficking. In response to these policies, the Customs Department in Ranong had requested a temporary halt on fuel exports to Koh Sawang, Myanmar, to curb these concerns.

However, this restriction does not extend to the support vessels working with PTTEP, which are allowed to transport fuel solely for use in gas extraction in Myanmar’s territorial waters. The fuel is intended to support natural gas production, which will ultimately be used to generate electricity in Thailand.

The operation is closely monitored by several agencies, including the Royal Thai Navy, Ranong Customs, Ranong Provincial Commercial Office, and security personnel, to ensure compliance with both national policies and security measures. PTTEP is required to strictly control the shipment process to ensure that the fuel is not diverted for other uses or sold in Myanmar.

The government’s approach aims to balance energy production with its commitment to addressing regional security and humanitarian issues.

Come on PTT.

Time to stop funding the military murderers and drug dealers.

Buy the gas elsewhere.

PS there is nothing to stop the military from appropriating the fuel for other purposes.
