It costs 300k a year to raise a family in Bangkok really? That's as much as middle class Americans in a major city would be spending. 120,000 USD per year is high income for any country in any city.

When one sees how the cheats in the contractor business charge, invent lies, inflate the prices of the materials (mainly in HUA HIN), it may make sense to have a wider scope on the real costs. So thanks for any feedback.

It comes with authentic illegal Burmese workers as neighbors also. You can sit outside in the evening and barbecue birds on the patio. It's a really family friendly environment.

Arguably, life saving care time could be slower here. I can't think of anything else thats different from my 50 years in UK compared with 2.5 in thailand. Therefore i will still refer to UK stats until i materially change something.

Are you assuming the kids will have a mortgage & car payment.  Cost little to feed another mouth or 2 at the house.

Put my daughter through Uni ... if that counts.   Which in TH, is quite inexpensive.   Raised 2 kids (GF's) in USA, for a few years, involving paying for a private school, since govt school sucked.

 

Uni was cheap in TH, and only real cost was housing & living expense, since Uni in BKK, and wife & myself at PKK.

 

Until Uni, you simply feed & clothe the wee ones, and very inexpensive.  Certainly not 100k a month, and more like 10k, if that.

Had 4 in the UK and 2 in Thailand,

None of them cost me much on top of the existing household expenses.

The wife was always far more expensive (10x - 100x) than the kids.

 

Just agreed to pay another teens school fees, 10kbht-15kbht/year + (2nd hand uniforms from my son).

With two kids

 

- I need two rooms when I have a holiday; thats about 6 weeks a year.

- At the restaurant they don't drink wine, but they eat as much sushis, steak, pizza, etc as mum and dad.

- I need to furnish two rooms with Ikea <deleted> and a desktop.

- Iphone and Ipad for both.

- Swimming class.

- Music teacher.

- A lot of Uniclo shopping as they are girls.

- They need to get to school, so two cars are needed.

- School fees.

- Health insurance

- etc..

 

And yes I haven't gone native...

I  have a hard time spending ฿1M a year on wife & myself.   Actually impossible for us not to save, ฿500+ a year, with no effort.   

 

I really wouldn't know what to do with 3X that income ... IMHO
