Any experience with car/motorcycle accident ?

A few months ago they found me at fault in an accident. The motorcycle (sport fast motorcycles) rider with a broken leg (required surgery) and in the first matting at police station I paid him 35000 + both vehicles inspection fees (however one of police officers suggested my wife not to give him too much money) till he gets paid by insurance. I have a 1st class Tokyo insurance, but the rider lawyer says the insurance not paying enough and asked me to pay more. If you had such experience please tell me your story.

If you have first class insurance you should let the accessor appointed by your insurance company deal. Doesn’t your policy say cover up to 200,000baht medical expenses per person injured. Look in the right hand column of your policy.

I don’t understand why you gave any money. Let your insurance company deal. If his medical bill was above 200K then guess bad luck for you.

Did the lawyer present the rider's demand in writing? If so, forward the letter to your insurance company and advise the rider's lawyer in writing that all future correspondence or discussions must be directed to your insurer.

If the request was verbal, advise the lawyer that he needs to contact your insurance company and decline further discussion with the lawyer. Advise your insurer of the lawyer's approach in writing.

The best way to handle vehicle accidents is to contact your insurance company right away and not pay anything out of your pocket. Let the  insurance company handle everything.

I was advised to pay some for beginning before he gets paid by insurance later after he recovered, but I believe that was more than enough for such reason.
Today I was told by insurance agent at police station that what I paid looks good if case goes to court and "do not pay" any cash to them, they will be paid by us.
I guess everything is almost clear now. (My 1st time accident). I hope never happens again, but I learned how the game works here. Somehow different than the US, insurance to insurance.

Too many questions before any viable answers can be offered

1) Why did 'they' find you at fault ? (were you actually at fault ?)

2) Were you licensed ? was he ?

3) Was his motorcycle taxed ?

4) Your Por-ror-bor insurance will pay for medical cover

5) Your Tokyo-Marine first Class insurance will cover damages

There was no reason for you to be talking with the other party at all.

All in all, if it really was your fault, it seems you were treated quite fairly, though any monetary request should be made through your insurance - as they should be covering all costs up to their limits.

It just seems you were 'trying to do the right thing' (which is commendable) .
