Tourists Fall Victim to Thefts during Busy Night in Pattaya

Pattaya recently witnessed a string of thefts involving foreign tourists, highlighting the challenges visitors sometimes face in bustling tourist hubs. Three separate incidents occurred on a single night, leaving both victims and authorities on high alert.

 

The first incident involved Mr. Ulich, a 68-year-old Swiss tourist, who, with his Thai girlfriend, reported a theft aboard a songthaew, a popular local public transport. After arriving in Pattaya from Hua Hin, the couple experienced their initial disappointment.

 

While travelling from Walking Street, South Pattaya, two Thai men joined them on the songthaew. Described as one thin and the other overweight, the men engaged Mr. Ulich in conversation, claiming to be boxers.

 

The encounter turned dubious when one of them hugged him before exiting at Dolphin Roundabout, North Pattaya. Upon reaching their hotel, Mr. Ulich discovered his wallet, containing 5,000 Thai Baht, missing from his shoulder bag, prompting them to report the incident.

 

The second incident soon followed at 2:10 AM, involving a French tourist, Mr. Jerome. While walking along South Pattaya Beach, he was approached by a transgender woman offering companionship. Mr. Jerome accepted, leading her to his accommodation in South Pattaya.

However, his evening turned sour when, after a brief bathroom break in his hotel room, she vanished, along with 57,000 Thai Baht stashed within a sock in his suitcase. Shocked by the loss, he promptly sought police assistance.

 

Not long after, an Australian tourist, Mr. Mark, faced his misfortune. Mr. Mark reported that his red Yamaha motorcycle was stolen near a beer bar on Soi 7, Pattaya Beach Road.

 

Admittedly, he had mistakenly left the keys in the ignition while he enjoyed drinks at the bar. CCTV footage later confirmed an unknown suspect had taken off with the motorcycle at around 9:25 PM, leading Mr. Mark to inform local authorities.

 

Pattaya's authorities are actively investigating these incidents, aiming to curb rising petty crime, particularly targeting foreign visitors. These thefts serve as a cautionary tale, urging tourists to remain vigilant and safeguard their valuables amidst the city's lively atmosphere.

 

Such incidents, while unfortunate, are reminders that travellers must exercise care and remain alert to keep their trips as trouble-free as possible, reported The Pattaya Mews.
