A married couple who mysteriously disappeared was found dead in a local weir after an extensive search effort by villagers and rescue teams in Phrae province.

The tragic discovery was made on the night of 4 March at the Thung Luang weir in Moo 6, Sa-iab subdistrict, Song district. Authorities identified the victims as a 39-year-old man, referred to only as Mr A, and his 32-year-old wife, Mrs B.

The disappearance was first reported to local police by Mr Natthaphakorn Srikhampha, the head of the Sa-iab Subdistrict Administrative Organisation. Police officers, along with rescue teams from the Song Ruamjai Foundation, were dispatched to the scene with specialised diving equipment, search lights, and emergency response vehicles.

According to reports, the couple was last seen around 15:00 on 4 March. When they failed to return home, concerned villagers launched a search but found no trace of them. Fearing they may have drowned, they contacted the rescue services for assistance.

A diving team began the search in the early evening and, after more than two hours, located Mrs B’s body at approximately 21:20. An hour later, at 22:20, Mr A’s body was recovered. The couple was found submerged about two to three metres from the riverbank in water approximately two metres deep.

Local police, forensic officers, and emergency medical staff conducted an initial examination of the bodies and the scene. There were no immediate signs of foul play, and the victims’ relatives expressed no suspicions regarding the cause of death. As a result, they declined a formal autopsy.

After completing the necessary procedures, the authorities released the bodies to the family for funeral arrangements.

The incident has left the local community in shock, as the exact circumstances leading to the couple’s drowning remain unclear. Authorities have urged caution when near water sources.
