Yikes. I read the comments here.

This is Thailand. Leaving a car... Or bike with the keys in.. Normal. Cash in car... 30k baht phones in coffee shops it's all normal to leave unattended.

But some of you think the victims are stupid. Geeez. Very sad thinking indeed

We never had this kind of <deleted> happen in Thailand in the old days, we only enjoyed our stay here and had fun.
Now we see foreigners fighting and murdering each other, foreigners robbing banks, breaking into cars, scamming ATM users and all kind of weird <deleted>.

So the idiot who lost the money just left it in an envelope on the seat? 1.5 MB? He deserved to lose it.

With people like you I always have the feeling that they would also break into a car and steal the money on the same occasion:coffee1:

The thief must have seen the withdrawal. You wouldn't just smash any car window at random hoping to find 1.5 m

Well I never, no 💩 Sherlock

Buy (say) a car?  Last car I bought I picked up 1.6m in cash and gave to the Dealer - easier than transferring/cheques etc for me

Yeah I sold a car last year for similar coin.... buyer paid for in crisp Bt1000.00 notes.

Why withdraw money to pay into another account? Hasn't he heard of online banking?  I transfer money from one account to another online. It is so easy unless he is trying to hide one of his accounts from the bank.

Yeah, not sure why he didn't do an online or even an over-the-counter bank-to-bank transfer. But I think you may be underestimating banks if you thought he was trying to hide his other acc. Once any banks log on to the central system, they will know all your other bank/credit card/loan/etc accounts, balance, transactions, credit history, spending - the works. Unless the other account is under an entirely different person's name and ID. You may be able to 'hide' the transaction by making physical withdrawals, but not hide your other bank accounts if they are under your name and ID.

Legit question.

"to deposit at another branch"?

There is feature named (electronic) transfer.

Maybe he is one of the "show me the money, is it still there" types 🤣

Is that your, or anybody else's business to ask somebody, why do withdraw 1,5 millión?

Don't get many farangs entering illegally. From Laos in this case it would seem. Much easier just to come in and then overstay which is what he essentially did.

The 1.5 million in a brown envelope which the Hungarian just happened to stumble upon all sounds very suspicious. Must be more to this but we will never find out.

First of all, I'm not buying the story of why the money was in the car. You have to be a complete and utter moron to leave that kind of cash in a car in plain sight.

Second, how did the other guy know what was in the envelope?

I think this had to do with some kind of a drug deal gone wrong.

I can absolutely believe this happened. This is a thai person we are talking about

1.5 m in an "envelope"?

1.5 m makes a reasonable packet.

Won't fit in a usual 'glove" compartment.

I agree.   My wife had  about that much in 1000 baht bills one time.  I carried them in a backpack.

There was no "envelope" that they would fit in.

Authorities tracked him down to a hotel in Pattaya, where he was arrested and found with 187,850 baht in cash, a mobile phone, a Honda Wave motorbike, and a remote signal jammer.

A background check revealed that Mr. Altal first entered Thailand legally on 3 September 2019 via Suvarnabhumi Airport. He later departed on 1 December 2019 through the Mukdahan border checkpoint. Police suspect he later re-entered Thailand illegally through a natural border crossing.

Looks like a Prepared Career Criminal, certainly not a One-Time Thief.

A Criminal Migrant targeting this kingdom in the first place.

Deserves Max Penalty for own guilt, in the hellish Thai prison.

Looks like this lowlife ran Shi* Out of Luck, for ever growing greed.

Without his most recent theft, he might be still at large though.

He said he withdrew the money from his bank and was going to deposit it into another bank account. Couldn't he have done that from his bank by transfer?

1mill fits in a brown envelope easy. Probably 1.5. but tight fit.
