Golf driving range close to central BKK

Recommended Posts

Shortly off to BKK on a 2 month stint. Mostly work. But want to take as much time as possible to absorb the culture.

however, one thing I'd like to continue is practicing golf. Something Ive taken up recently and dont want to slip in 2 months.

Anyone know of a recommended golf driving range in, or close to, central BKK? Not sure where Ill be staying tbh, so anything easily accessible from central BKK by uber will work.

Will be bringing a small selection of clubs from US so no need to rent clubs.

Cheers.

There is only one driving course that I'm aware of which is actually close to a metro station and that is "42 Tee Off" near Phra Kanong BTS.  It is excellent quality but considerably more expensive than the other driving courses around Bangkok.

If you are taking a Grab (there is no Uber in Thailand), then you can always find driving courses just outside the centre and just beyond the metro station lines. You just have to search for "golf" on the Google map.

My suggestion would be to go by the Thaniya Plaza near the Sala Daeng (sp?) BTS stop (MRT Silom) and ask around the golf shops in that building.  They'll have current info.  And it's worth a visit if you're a golfer in Bangkok.

You may end up at a completely indoor facility as opposed to a typical outdoor driving range.

You might as well play golf at some of the courses that are fairly close to train stops with a short grab ride.

The 42 Tee Off range mentioned above is excellent.

It has recently been updated with the trackman system which is in use at my home range in England, and I think its brilliant to use while practicing.

Costs have risen accordingly, though. You now pay by the hour, 375 Baht per hour, all the balls you can hit.

Accessible directly from Sukhumvit road or by the Skytrain (Ekamai stations)

no it has been downsized 2 floors now.

Thanks for that info, I have thought about a visit soon and nice to know it has changed a tad.  Always like just going there and walking around without thinking of buying anything.

Yeah, it is different.  I think a lot of the mall's traffic has slowed.   I think the Thaniay owners are trying to figure out how to make changes.  Sometimes, I think that if they opened an indoor range, it might be interesting, but considering all the other shops outside the city, there is a definite decline.

Yessir! I lived and worked in BKK for several tours in different decades.  I was a member of Bangkok Golf Club before and during its expansion, and I retired here but after 10 years straight of the traffic, and a daughter entering school, I told  my wife to find a school outside BKK and settled on Chiang  Mai.  I had played the courses there too and enjoyed all of them but then the pollution got too bad.  When my daughter  began college, at first we planned to go to the US and she had scholarships offers and acceptance but then with unforseen problems she decided to take a year off and then settled on going to Chulalongkorn the #1 Univ in Thailand which she loves.  My wife and two dogs joined her but with the dogs we couldn't stay in the condo near the college for our daughter and we rented a house in Prawet District closer to airport.  I have been amazed at how easy now it is to get around town with the trains and GRAB.   I gave up golf for a while due to carpal tunnel wrists but have done some exercises and wear gloves designed to help and I mentioned to my wife that I planned to go the the golf shops at Thaniya plaza so will still do that as daughter will be doing junior year on an exchange program in Seoul, Korea and wife and I will return to CM - where I plan to begin golf again.  Wrists seem okay right now and will take it easy, no 3 rounds a day/night as I used to do regularly.  I never played any golf until age 30 when  I was assigned to the Embassy here.  One of my co-workers took 4 of us to a golf course on the mountains near Pattaya and all four of us "never played before" bought golf clubs the following week after that first round.  I think the second round for us was on KhaoYai at the old now closed golf course - we lost 80 balls on the first 9 holes!!!! Those were the days that they even had armed guards walking on the course due to a tiger sighting.  But just those two rounds hooked all four of us forever!  I have played courses all around Thailand and always enjoyed every round whether I played well or not.  Thanks for the info on the plaza and will go check it out.  Long and straight!
