A 19-year-old man lost his life after his pickup truck veered off the road and plunged into a canal in Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani, in the early hours of the morning of 15 March.

The incident occurred at approximately 00:30 along the Khlong 9 Eastern Road, Bueng Sanan Subdistrict. Local police, Ruamkatanyu Foundation rescue workers, and emergency responders from Sanan Rak Municipality rushed to the scene following reports of a vehicle submerged in the water.

Upon arrival, authorities found a Nissan pickup truck, registration number unknown, flipped upside down in the canal. Rescue workers recovered the body of the driver, identified as Mr. Kittiphat, aged 19. His body was transported to the Thammasat University Forensic Science Institute for further examination before being released to his family for religious rites.

The victim’s 26-year-old girlfriend, Ms. Kamonwan, recounted the harrowing events. She had just finished her shift at a convenience store in Khlong 9, Lam Luk Ka District, when her boyfriend arrived in his pickup truck to escort her home.

“He was driving behind me, flashing his headlights to light my way,” she explained.

However, as she continued riding her motorcycle, she suddenly lost sight of his vehicle. Moments later, another motorcyclist approached her and asked if she had the contact number for emergency services, informing her that a pickup truck had just crashed into the canal.

“When he said it was a white pickup truck, I knew immediately, it was my boyfriend’s car,” she said.

Nearby residents braved the water in an attempt to save him, but they were unable to reach him in time.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
