A grim discovery was made in an abandoned building in Nonthaburi, when the body of a 56-year-old former security guard was found deceased amid a room filled with rubbish. Authorities were alerted after the man’s acquaintances, unable to reach him by phone, detected a foul odour emanating from the building. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that he had passed away several days earlier.

The incident occurred at 10:30 on March 18, when police officers from the Rattanathibet Police Station, along with rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, responded to a report of a male body in a decaying state. The body was discovered on the ground floor of a five-story, abandoned building located in Soi Tiwanon 20, Tiwanon Road, Bang Krasor Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District.

Inside the building, which had been left empty for years, police found the body of Mr. Juan, originally from Nakhon Sawan, lying in a mosquito net. His body, which had begun to decompose, emitted a strong, unpleasant odour. Due to the clutter of garbage and the state of disrepair, authorities were unable to remove the body through the usual side doorway and resorted to forcing open a metal roll-up door to transport the body for examination.

Preliminary investigations revealed no signs of external injury, and it is believed Mr. Juan had passed away from a long-standing illness. The body had been deceased for approximately 3 days.

Mr. Suebpong (surname withheld), a person familiar with Mr. Juan, stated that a local resident walking by had noticed the foul smell and informed him. After failing to reach Mr. Juan by phone, Mr. Suebpong went to the building and discovered the unfortunate situation.

Mr. Juan had lived in the abandoned building for about 15 years after his mother passed away while being treated at a chest disease institute. He then worked as a security guard at the same institution but, after falling ill and being unable to work, he had no income to pay for rent and had resorted to living in the derelict building.

Police have taken photographs of the scene and the body, and they suspect the cause of death is linked to Mr. Juan’s pre-existing medical conditions. They are now working to notify his relatives and will transfer the body to the Forensic Science Institute for further examination.
