Calls Grow to Shut Down ‘Vile’ Death Video Site as Ofcom Gains New Powers
Sadly, the Rotten.com site fell into disrepair decades ago but it was fun while it lasted. It was mostly stills back then, of people with dreadful wounds or mangled corpses, unpleasant medical afflictions and some who'd had terrible accidents. I remember one had the heading 'Whoopsie at the train station' - the top half of some unfortunate's head was still above the platform in front of the train, at the end of a long stretch of blood where it had just been dragged along. The rest of the body was below the platform. Somewhere. Somehow. My favorite MTV series wasn't Jackass, which I found rather tame and only occasionally gruesome and funny. The best was MTV Scarred, where mountain bikers, skateboarders and all kinds of precarious sportspeople were being filmed when they had really bad, bad, excruciating accidents. After the footage they showed their stunted limbs and heads with multiple screws and rods and whatnot and their X-rays. That show was a real cringer. A few years ago a Zoom meeting at work was bombed by some weirdo or other. Before I could tell the host how to dump it the screen filled with various images of women apparently having sex with dogs and people having their heads blown off in shotgun executions. All in a repetitive loop and with a Jihadi sound track. It really traumatized some colleagues. I loved Rotten.com and MTV Scarred, but that Zoom bomber leaves me with no desire to see this 'death' channel from the OP. -

Putin agrees to 30-day halt on energy facility strikes, Ukraine signals support
During his first term, and likely under the influence of John Bolton, a card carrying Neocon, Trump cancelled some short and intermediate range missile treaties. And so now Russia is concerned with its strategic assets inside Russia being within proximity of those kinds of missiles. It's part of the Russia strategic defense system and part of their "trip wire" system. And whether you like it of not, and whether the EU or any other of Russia's neighboring states likes it or not, that's how Russia sees it. That is the reality Trump is dealing with. The more Russia is surrounded, the more they'll push back and expand. The best way forward? Stop now and end the war. It's already over. Russia won and mo one can take back the territory they've returned to Russia. In other words, the West should quit while it's "ahead," so to speak. -

Depositing gold at Hua Seng Heng
Also, you began this message thread by twice asking, "would it be safe to deposit the purchased gold at Hua Seng Heng?" and then went on to conclude, "I'm sure it would be safe, as they have a excellent reputation for 70 years already." Did you arrive at your conclusion just based their having had a good reputation for 70 years, or were their other elements that helped you draw that conclusion? -

Fire Safety Directive Shakes Up Vietnam's Rental Housing Market
File photo for reference only In response to a series of devastating fires in mini apartments, Hà Nội is cracking down with strict fire safety regulations. The Prime Minister has mandated that mini apartments and rental properties lacking fire prevention standards cease operations by March 30, 2024, under Directive 19/2024. Property inspections and guidance are underway, aimed at landlords who must follow fire safety improvement plans to comply. The Hà Nội People's Committee, led by Deputy Chairman Lê Hồng Sơn, has issued guidelines for immediate fire safety enhancements. Essential measures include equipping buildings with portable fire extinguishers, ensuring at least one safe emergency exit, and establishing alternative escape routes. Moreover, landlords must review and upgrade electrical systems, prohibiting risky practices like using repeatedly refilled gas cylinders. For larger residential buildings, newly enforced changes encompass reorganising parking spaces to six square metres per apartment and setting up separate areas for electric vehicle charging, complete with fire suppression equipment for potential electric car fires. This comes amid heightened scrutiny and calls for rigorous implementation of fire safety laws from National Assembly delegate Nguyễn Thị Việt Nga. As the deadline approaches, many landlords are expressing concerns about the feasibility of meeting these new requirements. Nguyễn Văn Q., a landlord, struggles with adapting parking facilities in his densely utilised property. Authorities have warned that non-compliant properties will face closure, and in some areas, utilities may be cut off to enforce compliance. Throughout Hà Nội, officials have undertaken an extensive inspection campaign of around 37,000 rental houses and over 2,000 mini apartments. The city is intent on ensuring no violations slip through the net, promising significant actions against properties failing to upgrade their fire safety protocols. This urgent initiative highlights the critical need for effective measures to safeguard against tragic fire incidents in the city's rapidly growing urban landscape, reported Vietnam News. -- 2025-03-19 -

Pick-up Truck Transporting Metal Gates on Expressway Sparks Safety Concerns
Why are you posting such garbage? Do you realize that this person does not represent the mindset of the population? Agreed. It is a broad generalisation that does not reflect the mindset of all drivers in Thailand. The term "Third World Country" has evolved over time and perhaps now considered a slur. Instead, "developing nation" is now the preferred term. While Thailand boasts many developed areas and has demonstrated reasonable economic progress, there are significant facets in which development has lagged behind. One such area is attitudes towards safety, which have shown little to no improvement. The glaring absence of responsibility in this regard is evident to even the most impartial observer. It is precisely such observations that fuel the continued use of the term "Third World Country" - and more specifically, "Third World Country thinking" as a euphemism for outdated or regressive practices. When viewed on a national and cultural scale, Thailand’s approach to safety remains alarmingly poor. In this regard, there has been no meaningful progress for decades...
