English language tests for visa to be made more difficult
In order to get Permanent Residence in Thailand or Thai citizenship some evidence of being able to speak Thai is required. The vast majority of expats here are non-immigrant, so there is no requirement to learn the language. Similarly the UK visas in this thread can lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain and UK citizenship, hence the language requirements. It would be nice if the UK offered annual extensions of stay for various purposes like Thailand! -

Introduction to Personal Income Tax in Thailand
Take a look in your DTA and the TRD Tax Laws for the wording associated with 'mutual retirement provident fund'. My understanding is that mutual funds for retirement are also not taxed in Thailand and IRA/401s are a mutual fund ? The Revenue Department (rd.go.th) https://www.rd.go.th/65497.html I beliueve that there are a lot of PIT exemptions and allowances in the TRD rules that are applicable to Thais and which have never really been looked into in detail for Expats before because we were not proactively taxed in the past. -

400k deposit timeline questions
Hello, Can anyone give me some advice on my situation? I am currently living in Bangkok and will be getting married the last week of May. I have been in Thailand for a few years and already have a bank account (Funded with 400k as of May/8/2025) Right now i am here on a 60 day stamp that expires on June 20th/2025. My thought was to do a 30 day extension on June 20th when my 60 day stamp expires so i can stay in the country until my 400k passes 60 days. Am i correct on assuming this is what needs to be done to apply for the Non-Immigrant O Spouse visa that's 90 days? If the timelines don't work, is there any other extension i can do without having to leave the country and apply for this from another country Thai embassy? Thanks -

Economy Vietnam Tourism Threat Looms: Could It Overtake Thailand?
You forget after 14 yrs of Tory government and the self harm of Brexit which has hit the UK economy very hard...Brits have less money. We became by 2023 the 2nd most unequal country in Europe. Its like Thailand gets more prosperous Scandi , German, Austrian, Australian visitors than poor Brits. -

Accident Man in Coma After Hospital Dismisses Venomous Snake Bite as ‘Non-Emergency’
Depending on the bite site, signs of envenomation can take several hours to appear - as has happened in this case. It is not unusual to have normal blood results for the first hour or more after a bite. After this any neurological or haematological changes will become apparent - eg breathlessness, blood clotting disorders. With the benefit of hindsight - the patient should have been admitted for observation, although I would have thought it would have been stressed that he needed to be observed at home. As it was confirmed he had been bitten - it must have been assumed to be a 'dry bite' - ie no venom was injected. Time showed this not to be the case. -
