I never did that in 20 years, and never had an issue at the Laotian border. I guess I would not try the Pattaya-Cambodia route because I never needed it ?

Yes, I am located in Rayong. Why is does the Cambodian route make so much more sense when I have been successfully going by myself through Nong Khai to Lao (where Thai is also spoken, and the Thai baht useable) without any agency or fixer whatsoever for years and years ? I don't understand the confusion.

Things have changed at Nong Khai.

Without agent plan for 2 night stay and even asked for flight to home country.

However have not read recent reports.

I have pointed out the changes to border crossings. I'm very aware of flying DMK to UT return.  Then run to Nong Khai. 

In addition you're coming from Rayong not Bangkok.

Did you read link to thread I posted earlier. Guess not. 

I read that, from Chiang Mai to Huay Xai, and felt irrelevant to my situation.
What I didn't read was that I could do another visa exemption on top of my two previous ones via this "3 days 2 nights" trip though.

I was reading this thread when you replied and was seeing other posters explaining how they were enjoying the Nong Khai border runs, compared to the "hassle" of the Cambodian border run.

Thanks. I never need border bounce since I have an year extension of my Non-O visa. 

 

However when I come back to Thailand every year in November, the date of my return ticket is after the expiration date of my current extension. Could it be a problem one day ?

If I'm reading you correctly seems you enter Thailand with a reentry permit? 

If that's the case you do not require onward flight. 

Anyone entering Thailand with a visa or reentry permit does not require onward flight.

The only "trouble" is if you don't pay immigration via their agents, while staying longer-term as a tourist.  You can agent-van, or even fly in no problem - over and over visa-exempt - if you pay for their agent service for the entry-point. 

 

The whole "are not a tourist" bit is just part of the rhetoric to support this racket.  You are doing nothing "wrong" by staying and spending more money into the Thai economy.  There is no legal-limit on time spent in Thailand "as a tourist" - just cannot work illegally, or commit other crimes, of course.

 

Nong Khai was formerly a crossing which were known for no-hassle in/outs.  They have recently adopted a 2-day-out policy.  I have not seen a report that agents serve the crossing yet, but that will likely happen soon.  It took a little while for agent-service to be set-up to provide same-day returns from another crossing to Laos (near Chaing Mai) after they implemented the "2 nights out" rule.  

 

Given your location, a border-run to Cambodia is the easiest/quickest solution.  I have seen no reports of "agent-assisted visa-run failure" - so, yes, reliable.
