A construction worker in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, was injured after an excavator overturned at a drainage pipe construction site on the afternoon of 21 March.

At approximately 14:40, rescue volunteers from the Buaphet Rescue Association were alerted to an accident at the entrance of Soi Sukha Prachasarn 2, Soi 24, Pak Kret district. Upon arrival, they found an overturned excavator lying on its side, with a worker trapped underneath part of the machine’s arm.

The injured worker, identified as 52-year-old Mr Damrong, was found suffering from back pain but remained conscious. Rescue personnel provided first aid at the scene before releasing him from under the excavator arm and transporting him to Pak Kret 2 Hospital for further medical attention.

According to the excavator operator, the incident occurred while he was lowering a large concrete drainage section into the excavation pit. The surface had been covered with steel plates, which unexpectedly gave way due to subsidence. Additionally, the ground beneath was hollow, causing the excavator’s weight to shift forward and tip over.

Unfortunately, this happened just as Mr Damrong was standing on the edge of the pit beside the excavator. As the machine toppled, its arm came down, knocking him to the ground and trapping him under its weight.

Following the incident, authorities took immediate measures to stabilise the site. Steel sheets were driven into the ground to prevent further soil collapse and minimise road subsidence. A crane was also deployed to lift the overturned excavator and clear the area.

Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
