Entertainment Lea Salonga to Receive Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Picture courtesy of PhilStar In a remarkable achievement, acclaimed actress and singer Lea Salonga will grace the Hollywood Walk of Fame with her own star next year, marking a historic first as the only Filipina to receive this prestigious honour. Renowned for her Tony Award-winning role as Kim in "Miss Saigon" and as the voice of Disney princesses Jasmine and Mulan, Salonga joins an illustrious group of 35 honourees in the Walk of Fame's Class of 2026. This star-studded lineup includes the likes of Miley Cyrus, Timothée Chalamet, Emily Blunt, and Gordon Ramsay, with filmmakers and icons across the entertainment sphere. Salonga's accolade sees her standing alone in the Live Theatre/Live Performance category, joined by comedian Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias. While previous recipients with Filipino heritage have included Bruno Mars and Apl.de.ap, Salonga's recognition is especially significant, spotlighting her legacy within the global arts community. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s Walk of Fame selection panel chose these honourees from a vast pool of nominations, with final approval from the Chamber’s board. The Manila International Film Festival, responsible for nominating Salonga, praised her as a trailblazer for Filipino and Asian artists worldwide, recognising her profound impact on theatre, music, and film. Reflecting on this honour, Salonga expressed gratitude via Instagram, acknowledging the festival’s role in her nomination. The Walk of Fame committee chair, Peter Roth, applauded all honourees, celebrating their significant contributions to entertainment. Recipients of this accolade have a two-year window to organise their star ceremonies, with announcements typically released shortly before the dedication. Salonga, a Disney Legend and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Merit and the Order of Lakandula, continues to captivate audiences globally. Known for her roles in "Les Misérables" and "Here Lies Love," she is set to perform in "Into the Woods" in the Philippines, marking her return to the musical stage since 2019. This acknowledgment reaffirms Salonga's status as a beacon of cultural pride and artistic excellence, transcending borders and inspiring countless others in the world of entertainment. Her star will undoubtedly shine bright on Hollywood Boulevard, a testament to her enduring talent and influence. Adapted by ASEAN Now from PhilStar 2025-07-04 -
