You haven't got your facts right.

The "boomers" were too young for the Korean/Vietnamese war.

Never mind when the "boomer generation" exactly started. We had 80 years of peace and a certain amount of prosperity for most. 80 years of this constellation is very rare in history.

Since recorded European history, only in some 300 years Europe was totally free of any wars. Cumulatively.

Historically, we have lived in a rare "peace bubble", combined with incresing prosperity for most.

That is the essence of this thread. I personally am grateful that I was born at the right time at the right place.

The original post sounds like a UK-centric viewpoint?

Vietnam was pretty disasterous for some US, French and Vietnamese nationals .... but I agree with the general sentiment about our generation, although 'boomer' seems to now be used an insult, which is odd I don't see any of the subsequent generations covering themselves in glory either, and no generation to date has done anything to save the planet.

IMO any such discussion relates to white boomers in western countries.

I doubt anyone in certain countries are happy with their lot in life.

I certainly had the best of 50,000 years of advancement of civilization. It was good while it lasted, but younger generations have stuffed it up, and it's going down the gurgler at an ever increasing rate of knots. It could have been so good, but wars, woke, PC and BS like gender insanity have ruined it. However the main cause of the end is the unsupportable world population and debt.

While I could fill several pages on this subject, I'll leave it at that.

Sayonara baby, it was real while it lasted and thanks for all the fish.

OK .... so 2 years of conscription before the war ended, and average age of Vietnam soldiers was 19.

But I thought the definition of Boomers starts in 1946 ... so plenty of time for US  oomers to serve in Vietnam, and of course Vietnamese Boomers also fought in the war.

Don't forget Aus and NZ defence forces.

Blame your own generation for that. We gave you everything needed for a utopia and your lot were too greedy.

Paradise was lost when Kennedy was assassinated and the b'tards started Vietnam.

By the time I was 18 the major effects were already in full motion. Manufacturing was already being shifted overseas. Governments and pensions totally bloated. Etc etc.

Boomer refers to people born in the baby boom after WW2. You are 10 years too late.

Agreed, 1946 to 1964 is the official period.

and the South Koreans.

NZ had less than 600 personnel in Vietnam at any one time. The NZ artillery reportedly did a good job. The government was reluctant to send anyone, but NZ needs the US to protect us, so probably a good idea to send a nominal force. NZ also had a civilian nursing cohort there. I knew one of them- a lovely woman.
