High social media use linked to delusional disorders

Reminds me of those on here that post every day, all day long.

Delusional disorders have been linked to high levels of social media use, according to new research out of B.C.

Prof. Bernard Crespi and co-author Nany Yang undertook a systematic review of all available academic literature on social media and psychiatric disorders – combing through more than 2,500 publications. Their review, “I tweet, therefore I am: a systematic review on social media use and disorders of the social brain,” was published last month.

Some of the principal findings were that social media platforms “create environments where people can maintain a delusional sense of self identity without scrutiny,” and that social media enables “self-presentation in self-promoting but inaccurate ways,” a news release from Simon Fraser University said.

Hang on a minute....I don't think you can really classify Aseannow as social media.

It's more of a "letters to the editor" platform where verbose anti-social Karen's like me get to vent their frustration at the world. :coffee1:

Either

a/ delusional people use social media

b/ social media makes people delusional.

I'm tempted to believe that a and b are both correct.

I think AN fits the definition.

DEFINITION

Social media is a form of digital communication that allows users to form online networks and communities for socializing, sharing information, and posting user-created content.

Nuh - social media necessitates that you post numerous filtered selfies of yourself, pictures of you dining at expensive restaurants, and generally proving to the world that you have a perfect utopian life, three hundred thousand real friends, and are eternally happy.

Aseannow is diametrically opposed (or at least antithetical) to social media. :coffee1:

p.s  If you post a REAL picture of yourself on Aseannow, I will agree with you. Social Media in it's true form is not being anonymous - that's the point.

Internet has replaced newspapers. Humans have always been crazy.

"self-presentation in self-promoting but inaccurate ways,”

And the alternative is to remain in ignorance, which, by any standard, does not lead to any accuracy....

Is there any connection between extremely frequent posting and lack of self-awareness?

Could this be referring to me?

No, I'm ok.

No doubt. I consider social media to be the most destructive force in contemporary culture today. Children are growing up now in a world where they expect immediate response, gratification and notification. Their brains no longer have time to evolve; they must adapt to change in an instant, and the results are distressing. The difficulties of growing up have never been so public. Social technology provides a platform where things can run wild. Imagine the stress of high school – the competition for popularity, the pressure to fit in, the judgmental nature of social activities – at an accelerated pace. We try to protect our children from wandering off into the darkness on their own, and it turns out they are doing exactly that – online. When they get older and “ready,” we send them off to college, where they face more pressures. But social media has an infamous dark side and the more people share, the more serious this side becomes. As it turns out, living your life online has serious consequences for your self-esteem, your relationships, and your career prospects.

And it is a strong indication of just how bent, warped and misguided contemporary culture and society is, that someone can be considered an idol or celebrity just because they have alot of followers on Tik tok, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Personally, I consider social media to be the most corrosive and degenerate force in culture today, and they can be downright dangerous, on multiple levels.
