The world is jam-packed full of nasty, selfish idiots, always scheming and trying to take advantage of others, and they often win.

True enough. But their win is only temporary. Betrayal, lies and selfishness are seeds that grow terrible fruit for the perpetrator. The silence and suffering they will reap, for you reap what you sow, will be the price they will have to pay.

The universe doesn't forget the heart they drained without gratitude.

That's what I try to tell myself. They're never truly happy, the people around them hate them, they had a miserable childhood, and so on.

It is an inescapable law of the Universe that you will reap what you sow.

You cannot take from someone without consequence. You cannot exploit the good without cost.

What they took unjustly will be their burden. What you gave out of kindness and love, what you sacrificed may not have stopped your betrayal at the time. Life has a way of teaching lessons. Call it Karma, call it divine justice. Betrayal is never left unanswered. The universe keeps score.

They will be haunted by the emptiness of their own betrayal. The comfort they crave, they will not find. Their downfall will happen. No act of betrayal escapes the eyes of justice.
