No you're fine. The 15 days is for the initial non O, no such limit for your extension.

Oh phew, thanks a lot - and sorry for hijacking.

But just to put my mind at rest, if my 1-year stamp is good until May 23, I'm fine to show up at CW with my docs to apply for the 1yr extension on May 21, right?

Edit: Looking through my passport I've done this in previous years with 1-2 days left so I think I'm fine as long as nothing's changed since then...

Am I screwed?

Nup.  As pointed out above the 15/21 days prior is for the Non O application.

For extension you can go up to day of expiry..

Obviously have few, days up your sleeve in case immigration want something you didn't provide.

You do  not lose days by extending early.

No problems. But as said, a few days to spare will be handy in case of unexpected requests.

There is nothing to be gained by doing extension late.

Don't follow the thinking.

At CW you can do it up to 45 days early.

I always do it 30-days in advance - probably due to experience with more troublesome-type extensions in the past (marriage-based), where they may ask for unexpected things.  No days are lost doing it early - but no penalty up to the last day, if you have everything they want.

Yeah, that ends up falling around Songkran - and that plus the various public holidays after Songkran always end up adding up to lots of travel, and I know from bitter experience that CW hate moving the "awaiting approval" return date due to travel - had to go down to the print shop to print out flight e-tickets a couple of years ago to appease them.

But you're right, there's a middle ground between that and last minute, well noted - thanks to all who helped!

Update Rejected.  IO said we need to be married for 2 or 3 months?  And "could approve if we had a child".  Said we "must come back in two months".  FYI my wife and   I have been together for 15 + years, evidence of which was in our photos.

Never heard of this, does anyone know of any IO giving this as a reason for denial previously.  Seems like an independent decision, guess I got unlucky with IO's.  Can I make a new appointment and go to a different IO?  This is at CW FYI.

The section of the office is rather small though. , C1. Two small offices with maybe 8 officers crammed in Would probably see her, or maybe get her again 😅

I have never seen that.

Did the io suggest that you could apply for 60 day extension"to visit wife"

That would buy time.

How many days remaining on current permission of stay?

Yes, she made that suggestion.  My 30 day extension starts next week (still on 60 day exempt).

She talked to my wife in Thai the whole time, wouldn't even answer my questions, barely acknowledged I was there.

She also wouldn't accept our photos, no selfie style.  I think she wants like a photo shoot or something?

Im baffled.

I would try to go and make another appointment hoping to get another IO but I'm afraid I would run into her again, or get her again.

I guess they are just trying to drain another 1900 bht and give me grief for no reason whatsoever?  Is CW a difficult location for visa applications in general?  I've worked here for 15 years (not currently working), and the wife and I have been together for 15 years.  Totally perplexed.

It's not ideal however suggest that you obtain the 60 day extension "to visit wife".

With the 30+60 gives you enough time to satisfy the io fictional married for 2 months.

Remember to apply for the Non O marriage with minimum 15 days remaining on your permission of stay.

Good luck. You will get there.

Ridiculous, no such official requirement to be married for a set period of time.

https://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/issuing-and-changing-type-of-visa/

Item 6 on the list. Requirements for Non O based on Thai spouse.

6.1.2 Marriage certificate (Form Kor Ror.3)
