Why so many conspiracy theorists and what to do about them

Not a single person would have believed them and they would have lost everything.

Plenty of people would believe them....

LOL... just look at all the nutters who bought untested supplements and zombie apocalypse prepper goods from Alex Jones while he was peddling even worse nonsense. Jones made millions from the conspiracy nutjobs.

I do appreciate that at least you're not peddling useless goods as well as nonsense.

More conspiracy theories are not at all.   They are truths denied by authorities, to stop us becoming intrigued; and then investigating further.

When you offer a counter argument.... it is equivalent to making a claim.... You don't even understand simple logic.

To 'know' something you have to understand the basic facts.... which of course... you do not.

Please elucidate by qualifying and quantifying the forces which the structural elements of the lunar module need to resist. The magnitude of these forces would determine the suitability of the materials used. So.... since you 'know' you must be able to determine why the foil is not sufficiently strong.

Your AN fans are eagerly awaiting your explanation.

I could do what you all do and copy/paste an AI-produced reply... but I will pass on the jardon-laden pantomime.

Keep up the belief, this is very amusing. Oh and by the way, why did the Artemis crew not shut up the conspiracy theorists by providing ample footage of the Earth, instead of lame videos about their dried food?

'cause everyone knows.... an ounce of nonsense Trumps a ton of facts.... so better to just laugh.

What point are you trying to make with the video?

I asked a question 5 posts above, feel free to answer it.

Entertainment/education value. There are plenty of photos of Earth taken previously, but I doubt you will believe anyone of them as none show a flat earth.

I have watched quite a lot of the official NASA live feed..and the actual video that they have sent back so far of the earth and the moon has been very disappointing.

some good still photographs yes..but they could have been taken by a robotic mission.

or even dare I say it photoshopped !!!!

Apparently 'National Geographic' has some cameras on the mission too maybe they have the good stuff or maybe we just have to wait till they splash down before all the good HD video is released I'll not be holding my breath.

There is also a strange thing I only really noticed today they keep talking about a one way los of signal either from the ship or to the ship...but surely if the ship can talk to earth then earth can talk to the ship and visa versa ? but apparently 'science' says otherwise and NASA has not explained this phenomena at least not on this 'live' feed.

What has entertainment value is the fact that you probably actually wrote that with a straight face.

"We could easily just turn the camera so that it shoots unprecedented footage of the Earth from the window under plenty of angles, for all the Science enthusiasts out there to have renewed material to work on for years to come, and to put to bed some of the most pervasive conspiracy theories of the last 50 years… but nah! Too ridiculous, let's goof around and show our pot noodles instead…"

Just how ridiculous and blatant must it get for the plebs to wake up? That is the question.

So did I.... but before yours.... feel free to answer it.

I know... I know... my question asks you to show some knowledge.... of which you are not in possession. In fact... you couldn't even make a guess.

You have no idea. Science appeals to a lot of people including children. It doesn't have to be stodgy boring stuff. Google Earth photos to satisfy your cravings. There's plenty available.

These people aren't on a joyride. There is no routine mission to the moon and back as the crew of Apollo 13 found out.

I doubt they will be hanging around the windows taking snaps to satisfy some fool who doesn't have the intelligence to process them.

Here an example of the live feed just now about 80,000 miles away from the earth as they speed back.

Almost all of the live video has been of this calibre.or much worse.

As I said, I'm not into SF. Ask me about Tolkien's universe and I will engage more readily.

Then you are easily pleased. No surprises there.

Would that be Science Fiction or Science Fact, or Stupid Foolishness.

Need some clarity here.

Whatever you, do, don't stop explaining The Science to me, this is Gold.

Who produced this data to which you refer?

I am referring to the 1887 Michelson-Morley experiment, the aim of which was to detect the 'ether wind', an invisible medium through which light was thought to propagate.

Contrary to scientific expectations, the experiment produced a null result, finding no change in the speed of light regardless of Earth's motion. This unexpected outcome suggested a stationary Earth, creating a major crisis in physics by contradicting the established heliocentrist model. Ultimately, Albert Einstein resolved this paradox with the Theory of Relativity, which proposed that the ether did not exist and that the speed of light is constant, thereby redefining fundamental concepts of space and time.

This is what Pierre Duhem meant in his essay To Save the Phenomena: modern “science” interprets data to fit into pre-existing models and concepts, in order to explain and “save” the observable phenomena. In other words, observational data is twisted to fit the preferred models.

Forum bug, double post.

I still cannot shake the thought that this could all be a simulation. Life, civilizations, and politics all seem to follow the same pattern: rise, collapse, restart, repeat.

History keeps repeating itself because most people always believe the old mistakes cannot happen again, until they do. Some learn, but most do not.

That is why the simulation idea is hard to dismiss. And serious people have discussed it too, from philosopher Nick Bostrom to physicists like Silas Beane and Sabine Hossenfelder, with even Neil deGrasse Tyson treating it as worth considering.

But there is a big difference between playing with an idea and claiming you believe it in your heart because you think you know. A belief should be closer to a theory, something you hold honestly, but are willing to adjust or abandon when new evidence appears.

As far as I know, not much is proven about the biggest questions in life, and that is mostly true. We have learned a lot about how the universe works, but far less about why it exists, what consciousness really is, or whether life has any objective meaning. Even some also question the science about universe,

So who would be running the simulation? And how would the simulators know they are not themselves the subjects of a simulation? Would there be an end to this 'matryoshka doll' simulation model? But then again, it's the same as the universe, which is by definition infinite, as there is always something beyond, always something behind. As finite beings, we can't wrap our heads around these concepts, and IMO probably shouldn't even attempt to.

Well, those are wise words coming from you

I do not spend much time on it, only when certain questions come up here now and then, or when some of the more interesting scientists I follow talk about it. I have a friend who is fully convinced, while I am not.

I will always question our presence here on Earth, and I am pretty sure none of us alive today knows the real truth, even if some claim they do.

The real, universal truth? I agree it's unlikely that a human could fully grasp that. But identifying and calling out blatant falsehoods, which are clearly motivated by very basic and earthly notions such as the pursuit of power and control through deception and manipulation? Those are much easier to identify and call out.

IMO option 3, but each to their own.

I understand your point, and I agree that people should question things. But I also think we have to be careful not to let suspicion become evidence by itself. That is why I lean toward science, measurement, and repeatable results. We may not know the ultimate truth, but we can still separate stronger claims from weaker ones by how well they stand up to testing.
