Why so many conspiracy theorists and what to do about them

But I suspect our children probably won't be.

I chose a long time ago never to have children, because I did not trust humanity enough to believe in the future.

This thread is cat-nip for the intellectual sewer rats, sniffing out another thread to infect.   Flat earthers, the remedial class rejects who still think “gravity” is a government hoax. Ant

More conspiracy theories are not at all.   They are truths denied by authorities, to stop us becoming intrigued; and then investigating further.

It really isn"t a matter of numbers. If people base themselves on a false premise, then whether there are 10 or 1 million of them makes no difference, their premise is false and therefore they will act upon it without question (which is why I think it is an invalid angle to look at his from the perspective of people having to keep a secret – they don't have any secrets to keep, they believe the story and would not be in a position to verify it if they wanted to).

But if we look at the wider picture, far more people today have opportunities and possibilities than most human beings ever had before.

Opportunities and possibilities to do what?

politicians have to deal with complicated issues and difficult choices. They are not perfect either. They are just people, like you and me, trying to work together while being all over the place themselves.

That's one way to put it. Another way to put it is that they are criminals, selected and trained to pursue nefarious endeavours to the systematic detriment of the general public. An increasing number of people subscribe to this second explanation.

I think this is the dead end when you cant discuss seriously, and can only see black and white.

Obviously your brain is tuned in to a different frequency. Cant help that

It isn't a matter of seeing things in black and white. The first question raised in this thread is 'why are there so many conspiracy theorists?' IMO it is because there has been a large-spanning realisation among the public that their representatives are often against them rather than for them. That's why Trump was elected twice. That's why Meloni, Milei and Orban (to name just three) are popular. They wouldn't have stood a chance a generation ago. Broadly speaking, 'conspiracist thinking' means applying an interpretative framework according to which there are multiple layers of truth beyond what is presented at face value, and that what is hidden is often done so purposely with the intent to deceive and manipulate. As I said, Covid was pivotal in accelerating this gain in awareness.

It's important to define the terms. Take Thailand, for example. One might argue that people now have more opportunities and possibilities than their parents. Are they happier, though? I've been here long enough to see that the Thais are gradually losing their smile.

Skip the comments, and just take a look for 2-3 minutes at the footage of that 1969 Press Conference.

NASA surely did learn their lesson, by providing the current DEI crew with a script and a nice one-liner for today's Press Conference...

I watched a bit of it and I find it totally bizarre that you and the guy in the video put significance on the perceived lack of enthusiasm. This is 1969 - if you watch people talking then in general they are not media trained and savvy like now. These guys seem to me to be explaining things in a natural way - not hyped like we would expect in 2026 - they are scientists and or pilots who had a very specific methodical job to do that required a certain sort of discipline - and though they would have had some media exposure they are probably not used to so much attention in a short period.

I liked this interview as compared to the Artemis 2 one which was fine but a bit too up tempo and enthusiastic though understandably so.

How many people had to in on faking it?

Over 400,000 people that worked on the Apollo 11 mission?

Over 18,000 private companies that worked on the Apollo 11 mission?

Over 500 universities that worked on the Apollo 11 mission?

Over 100 government agencies that worked on the Apollo 11 mission?

you are also omitting other countries like China and Russia – I'm sure they were incredibly keen on joining in on a hoax.

And ogf course the various universities around the world who both then and now are perfectly capable of tracking objects in space... And in the end, WHY?

There are several possible explanations to their body language, but isn't normal and constrasts with their press conferences from before the mission. Buzz Aldrin has made some very strange and dubious statements throughout his life, regarding 'not going there' and that kind of stuff. He became a recluse, depressed alcoholic. He got very angry when asked specific questions about the veracity of the landing, was even unhinged once when asked to swear on the Bible that it wasn't a hoax, and punched Bart Sibrel for asking him. One can put whatever spins on this according to what they choose to see, think and say… but it's pretty weird and doesn't do anything to relieve suspicion.

1960s were great.

Present day not so good for many. 5G destroying kids brains. Vaccines making people sick for life. Gazans and Lebanese?

That’s a fair point, and I did not become as happy as I am now until I realised I had been chasing the wrong idea of happiness.

Today I am grounded in gratitude for who I am, what I am, and what I am doing, not for what I did before, even if that still matters, because it gave me the experience and knowledge that helped me end up where I am today. I live now, not in tomorrow, and not in yesterday.

And maybe that is one of the greatest things these times have given us: the freedom to choose happiness, because I can, without consequences.

I agree. Eckhart Tolle wrote a great book on that, The Power of Now.

Connect with yourself on a deeper level with a practical, no-frills dive into, as the title suggests, the power of now. Tolle guides readers through their own minds and the obstacles therein and teaches that there is no time like now. Literally.

Tolle introduces readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present.

I can't see what you see and to rely on that as a factor in deciding whether the moon landing happened seems to be grasping at straws at best. We have lived a life of television and media pumped at us - watch people being interviewed at that time - people can seem unassuming and possibly a bit flat. They could have simply been tired.

I have seen the video with the punch and most people seeing that obnoxious Mr Sibrel would have wanted to do the same. How would you feel if people with dubious backgrounds, often simply wanting to make a name for themselves, followed you around with ridiculous claims. Can you point to Buzz saying 'not going there' where you have seen the full interview and understood the context of what was being said . If so be interesting to see.

How can you judge the whole nation on one small area in you live in? Thais vary from place to place and family to family.

OK, you 'liked this interview' but couldn't bring yourself to watch more than a bit of the 12 minute video (which is actually understandable as it is painful watching them squirm nervously in what normally should have been a moment of glory).

The video also contains at the end two fragments of Buzz Aldrin talking to an 8-year old girl and to a talk-show host, in which he clearly stated that you should not trust what you saw on TV, as it was 'animated' and 'we didn't go there'.

Note: Rattlesnake just posted a clip in which their body-language is analyzed...

I have lived in five provinces over 17 years, it does give an overall picture.

Perhaps, but why would the US build a system capable of landing on the Moon, and not land on the Moon?

You cannot land on the moon.

The reason for these events - in recent times - starting with the atom bombs dropped on Japan; that never were. Is to demonstrate to the world just how forward-thinking, intelligent and superior the US is.

Of course they can't always do jaw-dropping things. So they make stuff up.

Ok I watched the Zoey interviews Buzz Aldrin interview now - not the crafty snippets in your video. That snippet is a bit of a confusing answer - from an 85 year old man - but clearly the full answer and answers to subsequent questions from the same girl do not indicate he is making some amazing revelation about a fake moon landing as you might hope. This is the best you have oh my goodness.

As I said, it can be interpreted in different ways and certainly wouldn't mean anything by itself… but Aldrin overreacts when asked these questions, instead of laughing it off as you would expect him to, if such claims are as ridiculous as he says.

Here is the clip in which he tells the little girl 'we didn't go there'. I am not saying this proves anything: when put into context, it is possible to argue that he meant 'we didn't go there since 1969…'. It's damn weird though, Aldrin is a strange character who always looks as though something is weighing very heavily on him.

I have noticed a change, especially in the kids who are now glued to their phones, playing mindless games and taking narcissistic selfies instead of interacting. Parents more in debt, working more to make ends meet, less carefree. Just my opinion of course.

There couldn't be a starker contrast...

Im more curious about this guy, who is he, and what background do he have ? He have many view, so obviously some take him seriously some comes here like me, but I do not count as a viewer, since I only saw max two minutes, or even less.

Who are all these people who spewing out their ideas and connections they see so clearly and manage others to see and believe the same.

There is nothing to be found just by google or ai about him

I reckon the people that think those jokesters/hoaxsters actually went to the moon are on par with the fools that think covid jabs were 'safe n effective' or even necessary.

The governing elites keep their fingers Xed, that the nonsense served up to the populace, will not be rumbled. We are the billions; they are just 5,120 all told.

Why has it turned out this way? Apathy, ignorance and democracy. Fellow humans; we must get off our knees and confront the evil ruling us.

But why would I think it's fake as a normal person. Because on one photo the shadows look a bit odd but can be easily explained. Because an 85 year old gave a weird answer once 45 years after going but went on in the same interview to make it clear it was a thing. I think there is apathy and ignorance by not going after the real life threats to our freedom in plain sight. I mean if it's a hobby that's fine but to say people who think vaccines are not fake or the moon landing happened are fools - and often responding by saying nebulous things like nature has the answers - is a big call.
