The last day for Foodpanda is 23 May.  I use either Foodpanda or Grab every day.  Sucks that the most English/foreigner friendly one is closing.  I hope Grab can up their game.

Foodpanda was problematic when an error happened and they got rid of human help a while ago, but it usually worked just fine.

Total bummer. The service was totally fine, and I thought it was even expanding, especially when compared to similar businesses in other countries that are quite successful..
I wonder what the reasons are behind this decision. Maybe somebody on the forum can give an educated guess

That's really sad, among the food delivery services, Foodpanda was the one that gave me the best experience.

Do Line Man or Grab now have a website to order from ?

I used to use them all the time, back when it was 'footbyphone' and they'd deliver a nice big menu.. .then it became 'foodpanda'...   then over time the service detonated (in BKK)...

I had 3 terrible experiences in a row with them approximately 10 years ago, with food taking over and hour or not arriving at all...    after which point I simply stopped using them.

The issue of course is that without market competition we'll see the quality of existing delivery services diminish as they take greater profits - we're already seeing that with Grab who now take longer to deliver food as they can make 2 or 3 deliveries in one run which means your delivery could be last and the food takes too long - which to avoid we can pay a premium for 'fast delivery'....

Line Man has it's own app.... It's worked well for us....

I use it mostly for shopping Big C....

My wife uses it for takeout delivery.....

They've used for a taxi service twice & it went smoothly....

I really dislike apps.

the small screen makes it difficult to browse.

Agreed, I'm much rather browse the food that I want to order on my laptop rather than the small screen of the phone... (its the same with Lazada and shopee too)...

I find the Apps here to be quite 'noisy'...

I guess most people are not super adventurous in their restaurant picks for delivery. But I'm always searching for the next novel delicious thing. Unfortunately, with the many hundreds of options, it really takes a long time to do thorough exploration. I wish they had better tools to speed that up. Maybe AI integration. Is there a way to do that now? I've been very slow to get into AI.

The Susage Mcmuffin and hash brown I get delivered are always hot.

Shame FB is shutting down, guess I'll have to drive to maccas on sundays morning stilll half drunk to get my fix.

The apps do have a lot of competing pressures of course.

Attracting drivers with enough pay to make such a rough job worth it.

Attracting restaurants while forcing them to cut their margins to pay them.

Attracting customers with good enough service, and attractive enough incentives to encourage frequent usage.

It's definitely not an instant minting money concept.

I do know in the US now paying for delivery is more of a luxury item than an everyday thing.

In Thailand it's much more of everyday thing, with people of all classes using it frequently even for very small orders.

I hope it can remain that way.

Laptop for me.   I don't know how people live on their phones.  Phone apps are crap, minimal info, annoying to negotiate, adds blocking half the screen, and screw trying to type on that little keyboard.   If using speech to text, need to proof read & correct.

I need a mouse and a full size keyboard.   I didn't teach myself to type, so I could type with 1 finger.

NO THANKS

That's what microwaves are for.  We even bought a small one to take with us when O&A :cheesy:

I don't order food unless it's freshly cooked, and I don't eat warm food if it's delivered.  That's a recipe for intestinal issues, I don't want.

I've not found any problem using it....

The search function makes it easy.....

The "Special Offers" category (or similar ones) doesn’t work that well on mobile. It’s clearly designed to be browsed, and that’s much harder to do on small screens compared to a desktop or laptop.

I had some issues with FP, too, but their support usually resolved them pretty quickly. Overall, FP has the most convenient web app I’ve used — and probably the widest selection of restaurants available in Thailand.

LineMan, on the other hand, is pretty awful unless you know exactly what you're searching for. There’s no sidebar for browsing categories, and overall navigation is much less convenient compared to a proper desktop experience.

Grab is decent, but in my experience, it has fewer options than FP and a mediocre web app.

Yeah, but why? Up until now, I really thought they had great apps — both web and mobile, discounts, "not that bad" delivery service, and a solid variety of restaurants. What else do you need from a delivery app?
But, guess I was delusional, and this is not how it works. Just confused how they ended up not making money with that
