LONDON, May 14 (Reuters) - U.S. energy officials are reassessing the risk posed by Chinese-made devices that play a critical role in renewable energy infrastructure after unexplained communication equipment was found inside some of them, two people familiar with the matter said.

Power inverters, which are predominantly produced in China, are used throughout the world to connect solar panels and wind turbines to electricity grids. They are also found in batteries, heat pumps and electric vehicle chargers.

Eh?

I'm not even going to attempt to translate this rubbish.

It's worth remembering that grid connected domestic inverters in Australia are mandated to have coms facilities fitted so that grid controllers can modify outputs to suit the grid requirements.

In this article, no explanation is offered as to the probable purpose of the communication equipment.

At best it seems that the inverters were not to spec.

At worst there is the possibility of foreign control of the UK solar grid.

Ooops.

For UK please read US.

However, it might be a worthwhile exercise to take a quick look inside inverters in other countries.
