What can one say - the man was known as the author of children's fiction prior to his bizarre appointment!

First the main culprit was China, and now Canada?

Next San Marino?

That depends.....does San Marino have extensive oil reserves or critical "raw earf's"?

You think a man in his position would have access to public information showing that less than 1% of the nation's fentanyl comes in through Canada.

To be fair.......

While Patel’s accusations drew attention, they contradict official data: less than 1 percent of all fentanyl seizures occur at the northern border, with the vast majority of the illicit drug entering the U.S. through southern routes, particularly at legal ports of entry.

There is a bigly difference between 1% of all imported, and 1% of what we managed to catch.

That's why ICE publicizes the number of "contacts" with illegal border crossers, rather than the number that actually crossed.  It's still quite easy to mosey across a southern border where hundreds of miles consist of a few strands of rusty barbed wire cattle fence.

The US-Canada border runs 'bout 5500 miles, much of it isolated, forested, mountainous.  Much of the border infrastructure consists of 20 meters or so of clear-cut...........or not.

It's super easy, barely an inconvenience to walk across both borders unhindered.  I've done it.

Those look like TTC subway benches. The TTC like other subway systems does not allow smoking in its facilities. If you felt unsafe did you push the yellow assistance pad that runs along the length of the car? Did you call 9-11? The TTC offers an app for  mobile phones. Download it and use it if you are afraid.  If you did not report the   man, then you are part of the problem and should not complain.

Obviously he does have access to the information. He clearly said since the southern border has been closed.

Having access to the information and  being honest are two different things. Mr. Patel was caught in his dishonesty at his budget hearing, so  offering inaccurate or misleading  statements is not an unusual activity for the man.

There is a flaw in your logic. How does Mr. Patel know how much  fentanyl is entering from Canada? Other than relying on seizures of the substance to extrapolate the exposure, there is no way of actually knowing.  As was stated  above, the  drug is arriving via cargo shipments.

If the USA has a drug dependence problem it should look to its own population first. Someone is using the  drugs. If people were not using there would be no demand. The drug market is  extreme capitalism and it responds to market demand. If there is demand, there will be supply, even at a high cost.

You could have just walk across the borders undetected because you not a drug smuggler. Cartel drug smugglers are monitored by various law enforcement agencies and also by informers to gather intelligence. This monitoring and intelligence gathering are crucial to track their movement and disrupt their illegal trafficking operations.

Ezzackly.  Mr. Patel is speaking talking points, not data points.

So all I have to do to successfully import drugs is not LOOK like a drug smuggler, then they ignore illegal border crossings?

Drugs are mainly smuggled through legal ports of entry, hidden in cars, trucks, trains...

OK. So the drug is crossing the border somewhere.  Once in the States there must be organized distribution as well as wholesale and retail businesses.

What is the FBI doing about that?

You'd have to be extremely naive not to understand the Cartels will find the path of least resistance.

I think the international left , that  I avoid on here cheer the Cartels on!

Cartels have gotten stronger , & are in bolden , by the anti American  NGO and other organizations  profiting from the scourge .Now that the homeland is protected at the Southern border ,stands to reason

the the same crowd went to another location.

 “These operations have made cartels extremely wealthy, with experts estimating border traffickers

earning as much as $14 million a day from their human and drug smuggling operations”.

As if they hadn't already pissed off Canada enough. He gets his info from the people he meets up with at all the sporting events he attends instead of doing his actual job.

It will be interesting to see how the next 3.5 years go. If the US isn't attacked and brought to her knees due to the intense ineptitude of this administration, maybe it will prove gubmint actually isn't as necessary as we all thought.

You have hit on one of my worry’s our enemies realize how incredibly weak and divided we are with this clown car of an administration…..one thing that protects us is our nukes and in a way trumps crazy incompetence….im thinking most likely our enemies will manipulate  the incompetence to their advantage and carry on.

What enemies do you have in mind? The Russians? As an English man I can't imagine the USA having any."enemies" apart from the obvious Islamic threat. Is that what you're talking about? Non of them have nukes.......

This chart is more than a 1-1/2years old and probably is lacking  other stats.

Is it your contention, its the US Government problem and not blame  or interfere with other countries?

Are you saying that Patel's statement is correct, and that for once in his lifetime he was telling the truth? Or are you just simply supporting him based on pure speculation?

Unfortunately, the U.S. is leading for overdose deaths.

Of course it's not only fentanyl. Fentanyl represents around 2/3 of overdose deaths in the U.S.

Don't try to force everyone into the leftwing-rightwing binary utopia.

Nothing I wrote was in support of Trump's incompetent lackey, but in response to quoting numbers out of context.

Most seizures occur along the southern border, possibly because more assets are stationed there to, you know, make the seizures.

I don't know what the actual numbers are, and I doubt Mr. Patel does either.  He may not care to know if they diverge from the Trump narrative.

Canada is manufacturing fentanyl and shipping it to the US??? That's outrageous!!! Didn't we invade Panama because of drug dealing? Why can't we do the same with Canada, a few crack troops in Montreal should sort out the problem. Just send in the military.

Why would a  big and important man like you care about someone calling you a name? Torontonians are always complaining about something, but never willing to actually make a difference. No one is going to complain because i. the train stops at the next station and ii.  people would need to see it happen. Chances are that if or 2 people see something, they will stay quiet.

You obviously know  little about the trafficking of fentanyl.  First off you show a needle box, which is common in most urban centers now.  Having a needle disposal bin is a responsible and caring act. In their absence,  hypodermic needles are  discarded on the ground or in regular garbage bins. It seems you are arguing against these receptacles.

Secondly, you are unaware of the most common use of fentanyl is in pill form. After that, it is an additive to  other drugs like heroin. There are not that many IV drug users in Toronto who are unhoused and using in the parks. They are  almost always known to the police and social service agencies. If you see someone injecting, you have the option of reporting. If you don't report, and  still complain, then you are the problem.
