Any advice, info? I've extended my non-imm O visa via marriage yearly for sixteen years, and my financial position now makes it easier for me (I think) to extend my visa on a retirement basis. I will still be married, same address, everything the same (haven't been out of the country for years), except for the change of reason for visa extension.

If you have any tips, I'll be grateful!

(I did a search on this site for this topic, couldn't find anything, but if it's been covered before a link will be appreciated. Thank you.)

Don't use the search on her, instead Google "aseannow change marriage to retirement".  You'll immediately find 5 or 6 threads on the subject.

Thank you.

Many threads on this. Not a problem.

Wife will need to attend for first extension based on retirement.

For subsequent extensions not required

I changed from marriage to retirement some years ago at CW. Very straightforward, no hassle. Just be clear whether you are retaining 800k bath in the bank, or proposing an application based on monthly income.

Good point, however most unlikely he has not done 65k + monthly transfers for previous 12 months so he will need to use money in bank method..

On that first visit when you change extension reason, you need to bring your wife, she needs to sign an acknowledgement document. Subsequent extensions wife not needed anymore.

Changing the reason for an extension of stay from one based on marriage to one based on retirement is a fairly straightforward process at all immigration offices.

Obviously you need the 800k in a Thai bank account in your name only seasoned for 2 months before you apply for the chains of reason and new extension

Also realize when you change the reason for an extension the new extension starts the day you apply

What that means is, if you go a month early you lose that month of your previous extension.  The new extension is not added on to your expiration date that you have now, instead it starts the day you apply for it.

This is all very helpful. I have the 800k in a Thai bank, been there for a few years, and I'm not now likely to dip into it.

Additional bank-related questions, if you have the time:

- Do I need a bank statement showing constant 800k for one year previous, or three months? (Not a problem with either).

- Letter of guarantee from the bank?

- Copies of passbook?

- Does the passbook have to show some activity in/out? I'm hoping to use the account untouched, kept as retirement visa extension fund.

- Do I need wife's housebook, ID?

- Map of house location? Photos of me in my shorts in bathroom?

- Any sneaky paperwork nobody's mentioned? Nakhon is notorious for introducing unexpected last-minute hoops to jump through.

Thanks again.

For your first extension you should show a none year statement, money has to be at the 800,000 level for two months before your extension, some offices require three months. You will need the guarantee letter. Copies of pages covering the one year plus the cover page. Deposit 100 baht on the day your statement. Some offices want this done on the day you apply for your extension. Since you are changing from marriage to retirement your wife will need to be present, she should have her housebook and ID. You might have to draw up a hand map, just make one before you go to immigration to cover your bottom.

3 months bank statement would be fine.

You are referring to Bank Letter. This confirms you as owner of the account and balance at time of issue 100b

Yes copies of pages of bank book and first page with name + a/c #.

For ongoing extensions immigration like to see activity in the account each month.

I also (previously) used a dedicated account.

As a result CW makes me provide a 12 month bank statement for each extension.

Most banks can produce on the spot. 200b.

BBL notable exception.

Note the bank statement and letter can be obtained days prior to application for extension.

Other items as mentioned in post above along with wife's attendance.

A TM30 never hurts.
