In the early hours of May 20, an incident on the roads of Trat province resulted in significant destruction when two karaoke bar workers crashed their car into crash barriers. The accident occurred at 6 AM at the Khlong Yai intersection in the Wang Krachae subdistrict, Mueang district. The impact damaged 12 barriers and left a Toyota Vios with Bangkok plates in ruins.

Police Lieutenant Piyaorn Khamwan from Mueang Trat Police Station responded to the scene, finding the two women involved in the crash: 25-year-old Chonticha, who was driving, and her 28-year-old female passenger. Both women fortunately escaped physical harm; however, they were found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Chonticha told the police that they were returning from a karaoke bar about a kilometre away when the accident occurred. She attempted to dodge a motorcycle suddenly appearing from an alley at the intersection, causing her to lose control and crash into the barriers.

Lt. Piyaorn informed the women that they were responsible for damaging government property and required them to undergo an alcohol level test. Chonticha admitted to drinking before driving. The police have seized the vehicle for evidence and will proceed with legal actions against the driver.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of drink driving and its potential consequences. The authorities are likely to use this case to reiterate the importance of road safety and the risks associated with operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
