Report Fraudster Arrested for Scamming 8 Million Baht by Impersonating Doctor and Executive

A 46-year-old man, identified as Vorathep, has been arrested in Bangkok for fraud and impersonation after deceiving victims into investing over 8 million baht (approximately US$245,170). Known for his polished appearance, Vorathep allegedly duped individuals by posing as a doctor or high-level executive.

 

The operation, led by Police Major General Witthaya Sriprasertpab, Police Colonel Ekkasit Pansithao, and Police Lieutenant Jeerattawat Kitrungruengdet, culminated in his arrest on May 21. The apprehension followed a warrant issued by the Criminal Court in March, detailing fraud charges and manipulation of computer systems to cause harm.

 

Vorathep was detained in front of a condominium on Ramkhamhaeng Road, Min Buri, after a female entrepreneur reported being scammed. He had contacted her via Facebook, showcasing a seemingly affluent lifestyle with profiles featuring luxury cars and expensive suits. By sharing personal stories, including romantic failures, he gained her trust and persuaded her to invest and transfer asset ownership, under the guise of a permanent relationship.

 

He disappeared after amassing a significant amount in assets, prompting the victim to discover numerous warnings online. Other women had detailed similar encounters, describing Vorathep as a car dealership owner, executive, or doctor, engaging in fraudulent schemes involving false promises of investment returns or cohabitation.

 

Although Vorathep denies the accusations, police remain unconvinced, given his extensive criminal record. He faces numerous charges, including fraud, embezzlement, theft, and document-related offences. Several court warrants are pending from other victims.

 

Vorathep has been taken to Bueng Kum Police Station for further legal proceedings, as authorities continue to investigate his fraudulent activities and gather evidence from additional victims. This case underscores the importance of vigilance against online scams and the deceptive practices of seasoned fraudsters.
