In a tragic incident in the Mueang district of Phitsanulok province, a Border Patrol officer fatally shot himself after critically injuring a woman during a personal confrontation. Police received reports of the incident at 4:45 PM on May 21, at a local residence in the Tha Thong subdistrict.

The scene, an accounting office, revealed the deceased as 47-year-old Yingyong, a squad leader with the Border Patrol. Yingyong suffered a gunshot wound to the left temple, with the bullet exiting from the right. A 9mm firearm was found at the scene. Critically injured was 40-year-old Pathama, an acquaintance of Yingyong, who sustained a gunshot wound from her left cheek to her right. She was transported to the hospital for emergency care.

Leading the investigation, Doctor Rakthin Bamrungsri of the Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station, along with Deputy Provincial Police Commander Phakphum Prabsripoom and Police Colonel Thitipong Jankitjaroenchai, examined the circumstances surrounding the incident. Initial findings suggest Pathama, employed at the office, engaged Yingyong, who had been waiting outside for several minutes on a motorcycle.

Colleagues initially mistook the sounds of gunfire for firecrackers. Approximately 15 minutes after the shooting, Pathama contacted friends to alert them of her injuries before Yingyong turned the weapon on himself.

Preliminary investigations attribute the tragic event to rising tensions in Yingyong's relationship with Pathama. The situation reportedly escalated after Pathama discovered his existing marriage in Kamphaeng Phet province, leading to frequent arguments. Yingyong, under substantial stress, allegedly consumed alcohol prior to the fatal confrontation, which tragically spiralled out of control. The investigation continues as authorities seek to piece together the motives and sequence of events that led to this distressing outcome.
