Hey guys, I read about the change in the law. If you need a doctor's prescription to use cannabis, wouldn't the cannabis also have to be grown to medical standards?

I suspect that almost all cannabis shops don't sell cannabis of this quality. What do you think will happen to these shops? Will the sale of non-medicinal cannabis still be permitted?

There's no change.

Just like cannabis wasn't banned on 1st Jan 2025.

Standards for cannabis cultivation and export: cannabis cultivated for commercial sale or export must now comply with the GACP (Good Agricultural and Collection Practices) standards established by DTAM. These standards are based on the EU’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines, due to the inhalation method of cannabis flower consumption.

 

The cultivation process must ensure high safety standards, including soil and water management, to minimise contamination from heavy metals. Currently, 47 cultivation sites—mostly privately operated—have been certified under GACP standards, primarily serving the export market.

 

 DTAM is encouraging more growers to register and apply for GACP certification. Applicants must submit flower samples for laboratory testing. The certification process typically takes around one month if all requirements are met.

I've seen estimates of between 7,000 and 11,000 cannabis shops.  Some of which also have an online presence.

 

The government/MoPH-DTAM operates ~ 1,000 clinics focused on cannabis treatment. I would imagine these would be the primary source of medical cannabis treatment and "medicine".

 

...if a shift from personal use to medical-only were to occur.

If Thaksin gets casinos I suspect the restrictions on Anutin's cannabis legalisation will fade away.

Rumour is, Thaksin has just done a runner to avoid another coup.

So the medical proposal will be as dead as the PT government.
