How are people saying Chiang Mai is boring? It's the second biggest city in the country and a massive sprawling landscape packed with endless business including a number of large malls. Outside there's lots of places to travel in the mountains too. Sure it's not Bangkok and doesn't have the bar scene of some tourist cities but that's just a fraction of the ways to entrain yourself.

Great restaurants and cafes

Great temples

Sports bars

Mountain drives

Best city in Thailand

I'm sour on cities in general right now but at least in CM you can escape to mountains within 30 minutes. Can't do that in Bangkok.

Look at this lovely view on my ride tonight. Surely that's worth something.  If you're in Bangkok or Pattaya you're a hot sweaty mess right about now unless you're in the AC.

Which is truly awesome, all the things on the road to Mon Jam. Zipline and rollercoaster, King Cobra Show, Waterfalls, Elephant camp, ATV excursions, shooting ranges, tons and tons of cafes and restaurants, Japanese Onsen...

Was there last week and it's awesome.

Almost killed by a Thai driver overtaking 5 cars in a mountain curve mind you.

So what are we talking about here.

Probably excluding downtown BKK, you could drop me blindfolded into any Thai city any they all look the same.

Does 'dull' mean the lack of adult entertainment, which is what I think the OP means.

Well guess what, for the majority of folks thats not a priority and just finding a nice place to live, where you feel comfortable, may seem dull to some aging monger but thats life for the 99%

I think the posters who listed Isaarn, Roi Et and Khonkaen are people who class not boring to be places such as Soi 6, Soi Cowboy, Nana plaza. In other words, shallow.

I, after living in Isaarn a great many years, find nothing boring about the place.

Khonkaen is a huge, majorly developed city catering for most people and with some excellent hospitals and universities and good infrastructure.

In my opinion, Roi Et is a good city in his own right, (although it is factory and industry orientated) but plenty of things to do and not dull or boring.

No, they don't have the fleshpots of Pattaya or Phuket, and long may it continue.

Savannakhet. Close enough to count.

I suppose it can, I found it very boring and glad to return over the border as quickly as I could.

I wasn't carried away with Vientiane, either.
