April vs Axa krungthai vs Axa vs allianaz

Hi guys,

im living in thailand around 10 years and right now im having very expensive health insurance about 450$ usd a month with premium international compay and im just 37 years old. I was looking at many health providers and those seems the most fit. Im traveling outside Thailand around 4-5 months a year in Asia or travel to Europe once a year for short time. Whats your take on  those companies in terms of claims payments? Im bit worried with thai companies playing games… seems April has better claims payments? Is it better to do with April international vs april thailand? Axa krungthai is about 6000 baht monthly vs april thailand 7500 monthly. Any members here  has experience with those companies and can provide some info? I was looking at allianz as well, seems bit higher. Whats most favorite insurance on expats here? 🙂 my previous insurance was paying 100% but prices are insane once you age. About my pre existing i have sinusitis which is pretty new and had mild gastristis 5 years ago and its gone. Do they look back 5 years?

Moved to Insurance Forum.

What policy fo you have now, and is it including outpatient? As that is an extraordinarily high premium otherwise. I am paying about that amount at age 72! (Hodpitalization only  500 USD deductible).

Thailand has no statutory limit on how far back an insurer can go in order to determine whether the policyholder disclosed all material facts relevant to accepting the application for insurance. In reality, it is limited to how far back a policyholder's records go and can be obtained.

Depending upon the policy limits,  coverage, deductibles, financial security of the insurer, etc., $450 per month isn't that expensive.

You may also be better served by an insurer that is regulated in a country that has better industry oversight and consumer protection laws.

I would also suggest using a broker to find something that best fits your needs.

My outpaitent is unlimited i think, its Davidshield. The thing is their price is increasing 15% every time and once you get into older ages its double prices or more than other insurance compaines. I dont need that high outpatient, maybe 60-70k baht per year is enough.

You might wish to consider whether outpatient coverage is needed at all.

Many expats insure for inpatient coverage only and self-insure outpatient. Save premium funds for catastrophic cover and fund outpatient from current income.

I was with them until 3 years ago or so when they tried to hike the renewal premium by 30%.........and that was with no outpatient  and no pre-existing.

anyone knows how i can apply for insurance with april interntional? and not april thailand?

If you do a bit of digging on April's website, you can find a phone number for their office in France.

Note that April is an insurance broker and not an insurance company. I don't know which insurer they might use for an expat in Thailand wishing to have cover from a non-Thai insurer. I note that their website defaults to their Thai office if one selects Thailand as the country of coverage. You'd have to call them to see if they can help you.

AA Brokers won't be able to help you find offshore coverage as like all Thailand-based insurance brokers they are limited to working with insurers licensed by the OIC here in Thailand.

The key thing apart from what you mention is that the insurance cannot throw you out/not renew when you get old(er).

But they can deny your claims. A win win for them.

If you read through some of the older threads specific to April you should come across a mention of @Sheryl moving from AA Insure to a French broker who she was, at the time,  quite happy with.

one phone number i have for Information for April International direct is +33 173 02 93 93

Thai based brokers like AA can help you get April Thailand.

(or any other Thsi issued insurance) Fot  April Internationsl you need a foreign based  international broker. I use

https://www.aoc-insurancebroker.com/

Whether getting Thai or foreign issued policy  should go through a broker. It does not cost more, and they can assist afterwards with any claims issues.
