SCB, no more exemption from facial recognition in app

Facial recognition has never worked for me at BB since an upgrade required blinking smiling and head turn. Before that it worked intermittently. Now my UK bank asks for biometric approval for their app on a new phone!!!

I visited an SCB branch today and then had to wait for a return phone call.

Basically if you need to transfer an amount over 49900 baht you need to ring them before you do it. They will then send it to some committee to decide the outcome, then inform you by msg. You will then have only 1 hour to transfer the funds.

Actually it will start on 12.06.2025. I checked with SCB and they confirmed that foreigners will have to contact SCB and request their permission if they want to transfer more of their own money from their own account! After using SCB for 20 years, I will move to UOB. They do not have this limit.

UOB has a limit of 50,000 Baht. I am customer there. With all banks you can transfer several times in a row below 50,000 Baht.

But you can change the limit to more than 50.000 per transaction, right?

Hi, I rang scb and since there were no English speakers staff available I left my number for thrn to call me bsck. Apparently if you need to transfer an amount over 49,999 or 200,000 (per day) baht you need to ring them before you do it. They will then activate the exemption within 10 minutes then inform you by msg or scb app. You will then have only 1 hour to transfer the funds thrn the exemption gets deactivated. 

 

A lonely operator explained all in perfect English and she also mentioned that they are working on a permanent solution /implementation of the system /for the face recognition for foreigners to be same as Thais 👍

They should develop the face recognition BEFORE changing the rules. I do not want to ask the bank for permission if I want to make a larger transaction. I consider this very bad customer service and bad management and will move my money to a bank that enables me to do what I want to do.

True I' also being living in Bkk since 2006 and I do have accounts with Ktb, krungsri scb and GSM, I only like scb cause of the 1.5% the highest interest t percentage that I get on a normal savings account out of all of my four banks. 

Saying that it cant beat the 5.2%that I get bsck in Australia. 😎

Please bring your ID card and mobile phone registered with the Bank, and contact the Bank's branch or channel prescribed by the Bank to take a photo of your face to be used for verification by face recognition for making transaction pursuant to conditions prescribed by the Bank in the next time.

Transactions made via SCB EASY App that require verification by face recognition are:

1) Make a fund transfer to a third party’s account equal to or greater than 50,000 Baht/transaction.

2) Total amount of fund transfers reaches every 200,000 Baht within a day.

3) Adjust a fund transfer limit to be 50,000 Baht or greater.

I ask as I had a notification today but only that they had discontinued the face scan exemption (for foreigners) for me from 16th June. Nothing about being able to get a face scan which I understood was still not possible for foreigners - I am assuming you are not Thai?
