Dealing with the inevitable demands for money from a Thai
I don't pay her a "salary". Normally pay when she asks but the amount has been creeping up, almost like I am being tested. I did make it quite clear that I had expenses that I had to meet this month. Along side the standard fixed costs they were the Thai accountants annual fee, work on the house I have been trying to get done for over a year. Ask anybody from the UK what it is like to get plastering done. Finally found one who can do it and not charge a small fortune. I laid it on the like then the first thing that she wanted was 13,000 baht for her credit card. Had last month she not asked for an additional £528 sending her 13000 baht wouldn't have been a problem. I don't need to make an excuse. Normally the accountant is doing the accounts in March but I think he forgot this year and only did them last month. Had he been on time his fee would have been paid 4 months ago. -

Politics Defence Minister Post Vacant Amid Thai Cabinet Reshuffle
File photo courtesy of Wikipedia Amidst a whirlwind cabinet reshuffle, Thailand’s Defence Minister spot has been left vacant, sparking wide speculation that it might be reserved for ex-Senator Gen. Chalermpol Srisawat. For now, Deputy Defence Minister Gen Nattaphon Narkphanit steps up as the acting minister, according to insider sources. The reshuffle details were announced in the Royal Gazette earlier this week. With Gen. Chalermpol rumoured to be the frontrunner, insiders suggest his appointment could be imminent pending additional adjustments. Meanwhile, the prime minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who was recently suspended, assured that the Ministry of Defence would function smoothly under Gen. Nattaphon’s interim leadership. Paetongtarn remained tight-lipped about Gen Chalermpol's potential appointment, neither confirming nor denying speculation of his takeover after 30th September. She also sidestepped questions regarding whether leaving the role unfilled was a strategic move to avoid tension with the military amidst ongoing border disputes with Cambodia. Former Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, now the interior minister, expressed his confidence in Gen. Nattaphon's capabilities. Highlighting Gen Nattaphon's leadership and coordination skills, he emphasised trust in his interim duties. Interestingly, Phumtham also claimed to have no insight into Paetongtarn's decision not to appoint his successor immediately. As the defence minister’s post remains unoccupied, political insiders keenly await further developments, particularly with border tensions simmering. Though temporary, Gen. Nattaphon’s stewardship is expected to maintain stability and continuation within the ministry. This cabinet reshuffle, coupled with Paetongtarn's suspension, marks a significant period for Thai politics. Everyone is now awaiting the confirmation of Gen Chalermpol's appointment, which could potentially influence military alliances and political dynamics in the region.
